I imagine there’s a lot of posts of this but I wanted to speak on it. From completing the 5th quest and getting the essence detector, I’ve completed around 100+ mythic plus dungeons, cleared heroic, normal, LFR raid, cleared my map of world quests and I’ve yet to get another spark of ingenuity. I understand that they can’t be giving these away but that’s a lot of content to not even receive one. How do I even know my essence detector is working and not bugged?

Same, was just looking up the drop rate because I haven’t seen a single one.
I really wouldn’t be trying to farm these right now - they will loosen up the drop rate as the expansion goes on but right now you have the stingest rate possible.
People have stated they have received them since since that detector happened so I am not sure it is possible for your detector alone to be bugged.
I’m not even actively farming them. I do mythic plus regardless and world quests for reputation but I thought I would of at least saw one drop by now

I got one a few days ago. And probably at a fraction of the amount of content youve done. And i dont really even need it 
if I was them I wouldn’t have them drop in mythic plus at all since you get so many primal chaos.
They definitely need a better system for this. The RNG nonsense needs to stop when it comes to certain things

See this video… has some good commentary on how to go about farming sparks, although it’s not a lot of data so he says it’s not definitive yet.
P.S. One of Dratnos’ recommendations was to kill the four rares that spawn in a fresh shard for The Storm’s Fury event in Thaldraszus. I did that on my hunter and she got her first RNG spark, so it seems either she’s very lucky or the drop rate on some rares is truly much higher than on other rares.
but really you did like 26 Mythic plus, 6 heroic boss kills, 4 normal boss kills. I got one on two characters though so who knows
Idk either. Got one couple of hours after completing the 5. quest from m+…this week ive got another one from a rare in obsidian citadel.
While the drop rate is propably horrible…i dont beleive you did 100+ dungeons since the 5. q and didnt see a single one drop.
Ive had 1 drop so far but from the sounds of it the content you are doing is the wrong content for farming these, if you want to farm them that is. From what we have seen so far the quickest way too obtain them is from disturbed dirts piles, adventurer bags, magic chests and tuskar tackleboxes. As you can farm 100s of these in an hour with each having a drop chance over getting 2 mplus and only 2 chances in that time.

I’ve actually wondered what I would do with one if I got it. I don’t have enough Primal Chaos to make another crafter item. 
Plus, if you’re limited to 5 Primal Infusions anyway, it seems like 5 sparks is enough.
You can earn Primal Infusions through M+ with 10 Primal Focus and 100 Primal Chaos. Where di you read that you can only have 5 Primal Infusions ever?
To be honest I didn’t read it anywhere. I surmised it from the fact that you get one from each faction upon reaching max renown, and you get one from completing the quest to kill Razzegath. If there are any other sources, I’m unaware of them.
Ive gotten 2 so far. One the week it was patched. The 2nd last week. I didnt actively try to farm them. Have probably done about 30-40 mythic runs total between the two.
Its just random.
I got one from the the final chest in a +5 yesterday. Forgot they were even a thing.
There are five “Challenges of Tyr” quests, which each reward a spark. They were time-gated (1 every 2 weeks) and so perhaps you missed picking the first one up or there’s a pre-requisite that you didn’t complete so you never saw them (Wowhead link below). After you complete the Fifth Challenge of Tyr, you get an aura that allows you to find them from doing every-day content, but some activities seem to have a higher drop chance than others (e.g., the rare mobs in The Storm’s Fury event through the Primalist Future Temporal Conflux).
So that, plus the Raszegeth kill and max reputation with the four factions is 10 guaranteed, but the 4 rep-grind for the factions (other than Valdrakken) also seems very time-gated (I play pretty actively and my Valdraken is 3 away from max, the others are only 60% towards max rep).
