So...when do I do EK and Kalimdor?

I mentioned in the Lounge thread that at some point I am going to engage in the long-term project of playing through each Campaign (along with every Dungeon and Raid at least once) in Order on a single character.

but I am wondering, where in this long-term playthrough should I place the EK and Kalimdor zones?

Should I do them first, and then go into TBC or should I do them inbetween WOTLK and MOP? Or should I just wait and do them after I am done with all the other expansion Campaigns?

thoughts?

Chronologically, you would do them after WotLK. If you want the OG old world content, you’ll need to play Classic.

It is impossible to quest in chronological order when vanilla quests have been removed.

It is pretty clear though imo, that WITHIN the zones we have, higher-level zones take place after lower level ones. For example. If you’re Alliance, and you do Redridge before you do Burning Steppes, John J Keeshan, who appears in both zones, recognizes you.

Basically what Kagehiro said. With Retail, the chronological order would be TBC > Wrath > EK+Kalimdor.

For Dungeons and Raids… Dungeons would follow the same order as many of them got revamped and retooled in Cataclysm to be either brand new or simply more streamlined.

For Raids, I believe you’d go MC > Oynxia > BWL > AQ > TBC Raids (can’t do the original Naxx).

If you want to include the blood elf or Draenei starting zones, you’d play them first, then move on to Outland, then Northrend, then back to the rest of Kalimdor/Eastern Kingdoms before playing the zones that were newly built for Cata.

No mattter which one you do first, you’ll level out of the quests before you finish.

So it does not really matter.

I’m not leveling. I am just playing through the Campaigns for the story and fun. (and transmog)

It doesn’t really matter…then. the stories in each do not reference each other.

I haven’t done the old world in full on a single toon - usually I do starting zones + an expansion that feels relevant. I think I’m close to finishing Kalimdor on an alt though.

Oh… that was you… I remember reading something about that and thinking… that’s a really good idea. Especially given I’ve been feeling burnt out on the grind fest and hypermechanics of the endgame.

So, thank you for the idea. I’ve been running around playing on some level locked toons having fun soloing dungeons and refreshing my knowledge of the old lore.

I have my BE Paladin from TBC queued up to level next. Think she’s mid-60s - I’ve leveled her a couple different times on and off since the many level squishes since and I’d so much rather have the option to take her back and do the Blood Elf starting zone and Ghostlands again (although I’m pretty sure she’s maxxed rep and did all those quests already 15 years ago since she was one of my TBC mains haha).

My point being that I’d so much rather go mess around in some of that old content I haven’t done in 15 years than play through Dragonflight and TWW yet ANOTHER time.
