Sound won't change now

Since the update I can’t change the sound from speakers to my headset When I change it nothing happens. Sometimes if I exit the game and come back it’ll finally change to what I set it to but not always.

Are you doing it from your PC’s sound settings or WoW’s? Because you can change your output device from Options > System > Audio > Output Device. Never had an issue with switching from speakers to headphones there.

WoW’s and it’s always worked fine until this update. If I change on my PC it changes it for everything except WoW

I had a bit of an issue with that while I was working. When logged into a character I could not change the sound, but when I logged otu and changed it from character login it worked like a charm.

I had the same problem Berathion. I use speakers when I play alone and a headset when I play with friends. Oddly enough I stumbled upon a fix. It’s not the greatest but it works. When you’re in-game or in the menu change your sound output under sound settings.

Then immediately quit the game, (not log out, exit the game completely.) This is what worked for me. It’s a PIA but it’s better than no sound.

I do it from both and nothing changes… I have to exit the game for the game to reattach itself to the driver. #SoStupid

I imagine it will be patched someday

and do you think setting it to ‘Use Default’ would work?? Not with Blizzards programming… “Use Default” should mean that it uses what the operating system is set to… and if you change what it is set to it should change in the game as well… right?? Noooooooooo

Has anyone tried placing a ticket so they are aware of the issue? just wondering if any one else has.

The update doesn’t allow the client to save system changes sometimes - it’s happened to me as well.

I have this issue. I posted in bug forums, did an in game bug report and reply to any thread I see about it.

Has anyone gotten this fixed? I’ve been having it in beta as well. It’s sad to see it was never fixed and now is in live. It’s frustrating to say the least. Some times logging in and out doesn’t work </3

Do you mean exiting the game completely does not work sometimes? It’s been working for me, still a PIA but works.

I noticed that unlike most games, WoW overrides my default sound settings, and I have to manually change them when I launch the game.

Which was great for me anyway. PC is set to headset as default. Wow is usually played through speakers. So it was set to speakers and that’s how it would be until I changed it. When I would want to use the headset in wow I would change it in the settings in game and boom headset output. Now I have to change it in settings exit the game and restart.

That’s called Progress!

Same boat here. I typically use my taskbar Sound icon, and click to switch between speakers and headset, have for years and years. But now, using the tray icon does nothing. All other sound comes through my speakers when I toggle (youtube, desktop notifs, discord, etc) but only wow will not switch to my speakers. Can’t find any info about it.

Only changes have been I updated windows recently, updated nvidia recently, and the newest prepatch content downloaded. Who knows which of these could be impacting it.

Been having this issue since pre-patch also. Only work around ai have found is the exit game method mentioned above.

This bug is still here. When I switch to headset ingame it does not switch and I have to quit the game and come back in for it to change and vise versa with speakers.

I’m also having this same issue. I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled the game twice now, deleted all the usual suspects for folders (WTF, Cache, etc) and all drivers are up to date. It’s exceptionally frustrating to have to fully exit the game to have the audio switch to the desired output.
