Ever since the 1909 windows 10 update, I’ve had this issue where the sound sorta “fades” for a bit in raids or loud areas. It doesn’t disappear completely, it just fades a little bit.
Windows’ “Loudness Equalization” audio enhancement could cause this.
Open your Control Panel (you can type “control panel” in windows search and select the Control Panel app).
Click the main “Hardware and Sound” link.
Click the main “Sound” link.
On the “Playback” tab, right-click your current audio device and select “Properties”.
Select the “Enhancements” tab on this dialog, and make sure “Loudness Equalization” is not checked. In fact, it’s often best to disable all enhancements and let those things be handled by any relevant individual software, but that’s up to you and your needs.
Repeat this for any other headset or speaker set you may regularly use.
Edit: Your audio driver may have software with similar settings. If trying Windows’ settings first doesn’t work, it may be worth looking into how to find such Volume Equalization settings for your driver’s software package, if applicable.
That should work, but if it doesn’t, you can try checking some Attenuation settings:
Open your Control Panel.
Click the main “Hardware and Sound” link.
Click the main “Sound” link.
Navigate to the “Communication” tab at the top of this dialog box.
Make sure “Do Nothing” is selected.
Communication software can also cause similar behavior, so if you’re still having problems, it may be worth double-checking that, too, since you did point out raids as specifically being an issue.
For Discord, open Discord and select the Gear-shaped icon down in the lower left, near your name and status.
Under the “App Settings” heading, select “Voice & Video”. Scroll down until you see a long slider bar named “Attenuation”. Set that bar all the way to the left, and for good measure uncheck both “When I speak” and “When others speak.”
Other communications software should have similar settings, you can look up how to find them if you use something different.
Update: tried some other headphones, problem went away. Either a driver issue or a pair of broken speakers.
Alternatively, I’ve noticed Crusader Strike is just ridiculously quiet. Since playing a pally is an ongoing chain of “BOOM” and “CLANG,” a very soft “woo-pshhh” definitely gives the auditory illusion that everything suddenly went quiet.
Sorry about that guys, genuinely thought my game was having problems.
