Soul Harvester for Demonology?

Has anyone used Soul Harvester instead of Diabolist for Demonology? Wondering if it’s worth a try? Looking for some feedback/discussion.

I used it on my level up from 70-80 on my Demo Lock and I’m not entirely sure if I like it or not. It has a slightly higher single target DPS ceiling but it is slightly less consistent as it relies on the procs of Succulent Soul. Personally I find Diabolist to be more consistent after switching to it after hitting 80. Plus in terms of class fantasy it looks so much cooler when you are summoning Pit Lords, Mothers of Chaos and Overlords to assist you in fighting

Thanks.

I figured Diabolist would be the defacto for Demonology. I wonder if Hellcaller would be more interesting for Demo than Soul Harvester.

Diabolist is very bugged right now, so I’m running Soul Harvester.

For leveling I used Soul Harvester but now use Diabolist. They do about the same damage but Diabolist is more bursty in nature, and looks cooler too!

I think Soul Harvester is the best amplifier of the core gameplay loop for Demo. Tyrant generating shards is as it should be and the spreading mechanic of quietus paired with Doom feels quite good.

Diabolist is more visually interesting but there are some odd interactions and timings that come up with the demons spawning.

Overall i think they are both solid hero trees but I honestly prefer soul harvester. I think it is overall a smoother gameplay experience for demo.

Soul Harvester is pretty good for demo. I think is just a tad lower on dps scale but not much that one should pick it if they favor harvester. I’d say try it and see how you like it.

I would go diabolist due to the visuals but from the cast time on the overlord cleave and then the pets every now and then deciding to hit some other random targets im all set with it.

@OP i think soul harvester might be the best from an objective/performance persepctive. But the other options don’t trail too far behind

@everyone else - can anyone confirm if the diabolist summons scale with Demo mastery?

Is it? Last i checked soul harvester was leading but I could definitely be wrong

Well from the dps raid bots seems like Diabolist is the winner but that doesn’t take movement/fluidity of the hero trees, just perfect scenario. The dps didn’t seem to be enough to warrant favouring one over the other I think maybe like 2k to 3k difference but from what I saw that was in relation to raids where as mythic+ is completely different animal. Just from method/Kalamazi info.

For me it was the overlord cleave animations/random pet targets and since I’ll be doing lots of pugs mythic+ runs, remembering that sometimes tanks will not wait and pull things away and with some forethought didn’t wanna bother with frustrations.

I’m sure some of the top raiders in here can probably shine some more info on this.

Soul harvester from my view and the way it functions looks to be amazing for mythic + which will be most of what I’ll be doing.

Plus I also think certain players feels with the hero trees does affect performance in some way. I do love the visuals of Diabolist but hate the random interactions of those pets.

As for pvp those temps pets all have some channel abilities and the cast time with overlord sinks it for me, especially with like everyone having some los /aoe instant cc. Already have to deal with tyrant weird no target run into melee to begin cast scenarios (which the devs are unwilling to fix for like years now) granted I don’t do much of pvp.

Visually I think they both look great though, and have a nice gameplay behind them.

Basically, the highs of Diabolist are higher than those of Soul Harvester, and the lows of Diabolist are also lower than the lows of Soul Harvester.
Soul Harvester provides a more consistent flow of damage overall, though I still prefer Diabolists more bursty nature.

The Pit Lord doesn’t always summon, which means your Ruination doesn’t proc. The Ruination proc can go weird if the target dies after you cast it. The Overlord doesn’t always use his cleave, instead just constantly charging, and it doesn’t always actually cleave. Your demons will often attack things you weren’t engaged with.
