Why is there a hyperlink button in the reply window if we’re not allowed to use it?

At TL1 and 2, there are a handful of trusted sites that can be linked. Forums sites, Youtube and Twitch are a few examples (there are more).

Once TL3 is reached, any site can be linked.

The forum template has the capability, Blizzard won’t allow it without time-gated levels. They should just hide the button until you have the required trust level – like they did with the Invite button before Trust 2 – but that would require effort.

Some links can be posted at TL1.

What’s funny is that I typed in: “B a t t l e . n e t” in to a post yesterday, not as a linked, just the words, and a) it disallowed the post because I can’t link, but, b) it was to b a t t l e . n e t. O.o

Yeah, it is a bit weird that battle.net isn’t on the list.

You can always post unhyperlinked links by using the Preformatted Text button in the reply tool bar. It will allow any link in that form. For example:
