i know yall gonna comment being selfish but thats on you, I know 10000% their are people who made 10 alts with every unique name, 3/4 word names. Who will NEVER touch them. Never truly level them. let alone play for 2 months then leave with 10 of the best in game names collecting dust. I GOT MY INGAME NAME. so I’m not upset. BUT EVERY unique name, 3/4 word names I’ve tried are all Taken and havent seen a single person around with or even close to those names. IF you are sitting on bunch of alts with names please dont be that guy.

Why would they delete characters? They could just force name changes on inactive characters as they have done in the past.

Somehow I managed to get ‘Deleteme’
I got my name but I believe you should be account locked to one name for the first week of a fresh release, then after everyone has had a shot to log in that first week and get their name, then open the floodgates.
It shouldn’t have to be like that but there are FAR too many name horders playing this game.

Lvls 1-9 will be purged from two months of inactivity

Not saying it’s not scummy to take unique/clever names you don’t plan on actively leveling though, just that there isn’t much they can do to curb this other than break apart mega servers into smaller ones.

I’m not here to agree or disagree. But I will say that on a fresh server couple of years ago I got logged in pretty quick and got many amazing names like Kirito etc., like tons of them. I honestly thought at the time I would use them, but I never did. They never ever even got logged in, and eventually the server died. TBH I feel a little bad, someone else could have enjoyed using those names.
Some people use level ones and twos as bank alts. So that won’t work because if a character goes inactive for a bit to take a break and it would be deleting a guilds bank just from inactivity … People show up at the correct time to make their character and name it, can’t take that away from them. What if the character is supposed to stay that level from the person’s desire to have it stay low level and be low played. People use names for contests and quests they make, so you can’t punish them when the character isn’t in service for whatever RP they will do.

Just come up with a unique name instead of some 3-4 letter edgelord name you feel you should have the rights to and no-one else.

I swear this happened to me once. I had taken a break from wow for awhile and when i came back i went to log into one of my alts and they force changed her name? Like i got a little pop up that was more or less like “we changed your name due to inactivity.” That was the one and only time it happened.

Level name squatters for many are also no frills cheap bank alts. they are logged into to keep the name fresh anyway basically.
I use my level 1 name holders to be to be cheap bagmen. They get drop bags, maybe I buy the one 10 silver slot at bank…and now they hold crap.
Like since I know leather uses one belt as an ingredient to a later level belt…its alt belt party. I’ll pump out 20+ these things. all reused later to make belt part 2.
I can’t comfortably pay the 1 gold 2nd bag slot with level 18. and is a waste to hold a whopping +6 slot bag really.
that is what one name holder alts are for. 10s bank slot , maybe a bag or 2 off the AH if cheap and drops are slow.
In time, green holders. I know for the space goat paladin to come I will store decent mail items. then plate when I see better drops.
Many of these level 1s are baking alts remember.

As has been said, they don’t need to delete level 1s. Just take the names and assign a weird name. They actually did this some time between April and November. Whenever I was unsubbed, because I came back to a couple characters having weird symbols in their name I had to rename.
That was probably the 2-3 year name release cycle they have. Once in retail I really wanted a name.
Taken for a year I tried once in a while, and one night as I made a char to check it just worked.
OP will get this…when tbc is like a year in maybe.
And only for chars not logged into. For lots of us, level 1’s are great cheap item storage.
