Does anyone else get sore eyes when playing WoW? Is there something in the settings that might be causing this?
I heal a fair few mythic+ dungeons and my eyes just can’t seem to cope anymore. They get red and irritated and sore
I’ve tried changing the brightness down on my monitor and thought maybe it was the dragonflying so adjusted that for motion sickness but doesn’t seem to help
I even went and got new glasses two weeks ago but it’s still happening
I’ve heard this same complaint from a lot of my friends. Its a result of 2 things.
When they decided to copy the art style of League of Legends for the environment and spell effects in TWW, they didn’t consider that choice carefully. It works OK for an isometric game because while the camera can shift around it does not need to rotate and spin like most MMOs. The blurred and strange, soft edges in wow now can create a dizzying effect because it makes it harder to focus while constantly moving. This was a bad decision made by inexperienced Art Directors and UX designers at current Blizz HQ.
The current art team feels that the more glowing objects, bursts of light and puddles of colors everywhere on the ground constantly somehow adds value to the experience. This is false in almost any design whether it’s print art, web or gaming. It’s usually a result of junior artists attempting to substitute quality artwork with visual stimuli.
This being said, I think the dev team is doing remarkably well considering the culture there must be almost unbearable. I truly hope they get BIG holiday bonuses because they deserve it.
You can also download a free piece of software called f.lux, I used to use it.
It’s useful if you’re on your monitor a lot while also in a dark room. But if your room is lit up well it probably wont make much difference.
Other than that I don’t really know what else you could do.
I used to have this issue when playing melee characters. I’ve always preferred Range for this reason.
Spell density or your Anti-Aliases setting could make a difference.
I was trying this the other day as well. And also playing with the different colour tones or whatever on my monitor. Ever since dragonflight I’ve found any area with lava to be super uncomfortable to look at. Which I’m sure you could imagine was a problem in dragonflight.
I had a problem a few years back that turned out to be caused by reflected sunlight sneaking around the corner of a curtain. I didn’t consciously register it, but it was apparently catching my peripheral vision for a few minutes in the late afternoon each day. I placed a piece of cardboard to block that one little spot at the edge of the curtain and within a few days my eyes were feeling better.
Go see your eye doctor. It’s always best to get a clinical opinion after they check your eyes. They might adjust your prescription slightly and get the coatings or different types of lenses for your glasses. Or you may need glasses for such things.
But it’s always best to talk to your eye doc and get an exam.
