That occurred to me today while I was questing in ZM. There was this quest, “Save the Vombata” where you had to run around patting cubs in a certain area. But then I get there and every cub is a dot on the map, and when you get close they sparkle. I don’t have to search, all I have to do is go from dot to dot, and voila, quest compelted.
I mean, I get it, its makework but really does it have to be so very little mindwork involved in the game?
Also: I have to have Wowhead up at all times and the Handy Notes addon in order to figure out 90% of ZM stuff. This one being easy is a breath of fresh air.
There is plenty of crap I’ve dealt with in this game that has aggravated me to no end. I thank god every time I get a quest as trivial as that because I know that lurking around there corner there’s a quest that drags on forever around the horizon
and do /chicken then it turns into the Enraged variant and you can battle it. The agitated variant doesn’t have a nameplate and doesn’t show up as a vignette (the star) on your minimap so what does that mean? It means you better make a /tar Agitated Poltrid macro and run around spamming that macro to target them. That’s trash design and I hate it so yeah, more trivial for me please
And then there was the treasure in the underground area this week, where I had to zoom in to be in first person mode just to find the hidden teleport pads and had no clue the fourth one was outside, so I had to finally use Wowhead after 20 minutes of searching.
Or the treasure that requires me to find a bunch of eggs to kick a chicken out of a nest.
Or the rare no one knows how to spawn, so they keep killing the little vespids before they can get 12 stacks of poison on me.
Or the extremely rare goop droprate where you traverse the world to get more stuff.
Or the one puzzle that I have to use an addon to solve, because half the time it makes no sense.
I realize a lot of casual players prefer hand-holdy, brain-dead content but the least Blizzard could do is make those markers optional for those of us who like to fully engage with the quest.
The problem with this approach is that I had to update the image file, so that means at any point in time Blizz could update the blips file again and the addon may not work anymore.
It would be cool if Blizz updated the minimap in such a way that addon devs could create an option for players to toggle specific blips visibility, size, etc
