So I wouldn’t have to deal with the FFXIV community and their hatred for alt lovers.

I’m sorry I was raised in a generation where none of this was standard practice.
As an FFXIV player of 5 years, I can say I’ve never heard any of that beyond the “why make an alt when you can do everything on one character”. Even that is not done maliciously as for most people one character is enough, however, people are usually understanding of alts for RP/Crafting purposes.

Same. I’ve literally never heard the other complaints once. If people choose to make alts that’s totally up to them, even if I disagree with it over there.
Yeah doing my roulettes yesterday and the last boss the tank was like “I hate this boss” so one of the DPS says “have you done it before” (because the tank got the achievement for discovery) and the tank says “Yeah, this is my 6th alt.” and the only thing I was thinking was WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU DO THAT TO YOURSELF.

Weird. I am also on Aether, though on Midgardsormr, and have never ever not once seen anything like that happen. Was it someone on Jenova? I am not sure what you are actually quoting from.

Yeah same i’ve never seen anyone say anything remotely close to this. Personally i enjoy having the ability to do everything on one toon but i’ve yet to see this type of discouragement. In fact I welcome alts as it usually tends to help the game economy
As far as the FFXIV community as a whole, it’s one of the nicest and friendliest online communities i’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Obviously there are still trolls, elitists, toxic players, etc. But when I compare them to other games I play the contrast is pretty night and day.

I’m not saying they aren’t a helpful bunch of people. They truly are. But, when I’m playing an alt I tend to pretend I’m either new to the game or I’m not the same person unless I’m playing with a group of people I know.
I hate being judged on having alts. It’s what I grew up with. So FFXIV system is still kind of new and weird to me.
You aren’t being judged because you have alts. You are being judged because that’s what people on reddit are inclined to do. If it wasn’t that it would be something else. Seriously, do not classify the playerbase on what happens there. Their forums for other games are equally as bad, if not worse.
I’m inclined to agree with you because, honestly i only just started using reddit like yesterday. Had an account since 2016 but, it was only to catch free game keys from people XD.
This is honestly the first time I use it to talk about something i had on my mind.
The only reason to go to reddit, as far as FFXIV goes, is guides and there is someone on reddit that publishes stuff for the fashion report each week. I still feel like FFXIV is overhyped. It’s a solid game, but every time anyone has any issue with WoW it seems like it immediately turns to “GONNA GO PLAY FFXIV INSTEAD, IT’S SO MUCH BETTER”. Not saying you are one of those people OP, just, a general trend is all.
It has a decent amount of side junk to do, but for the most part its endgame boils down to:
Even their pre-Savage raiding is just another currency.
No relevant gear comes from actually doing content, it’s all this predetermined currency garbage.
Really burns me out right quick. Really needs to be a combination.
WoW’s current 100% RNG method is no good, but at least you actually get relevant rewards from the content you’re doing.
I sub to FFXIV once or twice per expansion to go through the story and very early endgame. Usually only there about a month per sub period. It’s just kinda… eh. WoW’s combat is better anyway.
I agree with you. FFXIV is a great story game. But it is grindy towards the end. However it’s no where near the level of grind that B&S is. I can tolerate FFXIV grind because I don’t find it all that different from WoW endgame grind.
I will say I started playing FFXIV on a free key giveaway and not because i was frustrated with WoW. I’m playing FFXIV now because i’m frustrated with WoW but that’s a different topic XD.
Eh, its more high school girl crap over there. Just because people don’t tell you how they feel directly doesn’t make them nicer or less toxic. I would much rather know someone hated my guts, rather then have a false smile to my face and words behind the scenes.
Things still get very dramatic and personal.
For more context the topic that was being discussed was, “Should alts be locked behind story if you finished it on your main?”
Basically saying I wanted more alt friendly content to be added to help with the grind and that i shouldn’t have to pay for a story skip if i already beat the story on that account.
It just doesn’t feel right to have me to pay to skip the story or be locked by the story if i already know the story.
