So when i woke up this morning i logged played for a bit did dailies, lvl alts, ect. Then i log off to take care off some stuff. About an hour later when i come back home and log on the game needs to update…again. Ok so i let it do it’s thing and i get this error message “Something went wrong with a file” i clicked the link at the bottom i tried everything (except the 6th option because my internet is limited). I don’t know wtf is going on but i am generally pissed right now. the fact that everything went just fine this morning and now an update basically prevent me from logging in at all.
Happening to me, and another guy who just made a thread about it too
I posted a solution, open task manager, and close the blizzard voice proxy, or bnet voice proxy, i forget which it’s called. This background app on the bnet launcher is causing wow to not update. After you close that, you should be able to update!
Got home today and have the same issue not sure why but I don’t know where to look for stuff like task manager, can please someone help me?
press control alt delete and open task manager, find programs, then scrll down until you find the blizzard voice proxy and disable that.
I’m sorry but I can’t find programs at all I got windows 10 btw this is really stressful
Try restarting your PC - it is possible something is stuck open as Sylania mentioned. If you have fast boot on it may not close the program correctly. We can also close it out manually:
- Right click your task bar and choose
Task Manager
- (Windows 10) click
More Details
- Scroll through the list of programs for
WoW
orWoWVoiceProxy
. There are three sections of this menu, and you can sort them alphabetically to look through them more easily. - If either program is active, Right Click the program and choose
End Task
- Re test the patch
I’m really sorry but I don’t see it there is no proxy for wow on here wil I never play wow again…
If the steps above don’t help you out and you nee more help, I’d honestly create a ticket or start your own thread - you may be having another problem entirely. There’s more than one thing that can break an installation after all! In either situation, please reply back with the exact error code you get when the installation fails (Should start with BLZBNT or BLZBGS and then have a few more letters and a bunch of numbers after)
i went to task manager, could not find windows 10 or wowvoiceproxy, i had to reboot machine twice for patch to install. my computer is a dell and uses window 10,it is about 1 1/2 years old and is a gaming machine. everytime that i download a patch recently i have to restart computer for the wow patch to install, whats up.

to find WowVoiceProxy.exe go to (whatever the game is installed to) World of Warcraft - retail - Utils at the bottom there’s that file i use a program called IObit Unlocker <it’s free> to rename it to WowVoiceProxy.exe.bak you get a error in the chat channel when you logon but it;s fine i rename that file because i have wow on a external drive <laptop drive is only 32GBs> that locks it from ejecting
