Something like Gold Saucer in WoW?

Why doesn’t WoW have something like Gold Saucer from FFXIV?

For those of you that don’t know - Gold Saucer is basically a giant casino where you can participate in any number of different games/events. Such things earn you a specific currency you can ONLY spend in the Gold Saucer.

You can spend the currency on glams/mogs, mounts, etc etc. You are then able to use that stuff outside of the Gold Saucer as you see fit.

The Saucer had events ranging from Card games (Triple Triad), Mahjong, Chocobo Racing, jumping puzzles, etc.

Just wondering - if WoW had something like this, would you be keen to give it a go?

EDIT: Yes I know about the Darkmoon Faire, but it simply doesn’t compare to what the Gold Saucer is.

Yeah I get all that. But just the idea about having central where you could do all that stuff.

Not trying to start an FFXIV vs WoW argument. Just staying I think such a thing in WoW would be cool.

it’s not a bad idea. where is this area in FFXIV? is it in a major city or is it a hub on its own?

DMF doesn’t compare.

I would love something like this in WoW, honestly. The Darkmoon Faire is neat, but it’s only there for a limited time and they almost never update the activities or the prizes. With the Gold Saucer they’re often adding more things to do, and new things to buy.

While we’re stealing from FF14 though, can we also steal their treasure map system please?

It starts as an early game quest in one of the major cities. I think the quest is called “It could happen to you!” Or something. Can’t remember the name of the city but it’s the one that isn’t Gridania or Limsa.

Oh, Ul’dah. Now I remember. That’s the city.

Once you do the quest, you can teleport to the Gold Saucer whenever you want as it’s a hub all on its own.

Darkmoon Fair. It would be cool if they did an overhaul and massively expanded it though. We need raid size activities like in FFXIV

It’s a hub all to itself. It is set up like a tiny city with a central aetheryte and then smaller ones you can port to for different plazas. It has a LOT to do. Mahjong, a pet battle strategy type game, chocobo racing and breeding, Triple Triad, fun little carnival style games, Fates that are everything from jumping puzzles to shoot the target, a daily scratch ticket lottery, a weekly big draw lottery… And all of that give you a special currency that you can use to buy music, mounts, glamour, minions, etc.

They update it too. They will add new quests and games, and sometimes rotate old ones out. They often add new items to buy and earn. It’s lots of fun.

Yeah I know DMF is there, but in all fairness, it doesn’t compare.

It’s hard to even justify how much fun Gold Saucer is. You need to experience it yourself.

Yeah, I could never get into dmf. Always bored me. But when I first unlocked Gold Saucer I was glued to it for weeks. In fact the double GP event should be coming up soon, I need to resub to FFXIV for that. Gold Saucer was jam packed last year, was a blast.

Yeah, comparing DMF to Gold Saucer is like comparing a tricycle to a Jaguar.

It’s hard to leave once you’re there in all honesty. I just love they continued the Triple Triad legacy from FF8 more than anything.

But yeah, it’s so fun. Even the mini games.

If they expanded DMF, and made it permanent (unless it already is?) then that would be a start.

I think Darkmoon has potential to be it, but they’d have to add to it and have it around all the time.

Because it’d be fun? Also, if people were able to win any kind of currency it would diminish token sales.

The problem is that is fun and Blizzard doesn’t like fun.

You win Tokens in FF14, which can be spent on fun transmogs and cool mounts, like the FF15 car.
