Some people come up with really cool ideas and then others seem to only exist to tell them how dumb their idea is. After a while, no one shares their ideas any more and only stick around to disparage others.
It reminded me of the monkey experiment, and for those not acquainted;
My question is. Why is it this way? Has it always been this way?
Some will just come and say ânoâ to my request for druid and dracthyr dynamic flight. Thanks dude, for bumping my thread. Now someone with proper arguments for a civil discussion can come!
Iâve seen this happen. Easier to criticize and jealous than come up with an idea.
Theyâll pick it apart. I know these types personally when I made custom maps for games. I could write Lord of the Rings and draw the Mona LisaâŠneither would be good enough, too pedestrian.
Think of how many times JK Rowling was declined by Publishers.
Same reason why twitter was all about arguing all the time and why I left [apart from other reasons], the internet is becoming a rather empty place that kind of breeds attacks on one another, venting, etcâŠ
Itâs mostly because no one knows how to have a proper conversation with one another and instead be miserable about everything and ruin someone elseâs day over having an opinion.
to be fair, your last âideaâ is something which just isnât needed.
about the only person it would benefit, isâŠ
hmm.
oh right.
YOU.
Just because you think something is a âreally cool ideaâ, doesnât mean that it actually is.
Youâre asking for an NPC to be added, so you donât have to take 15 steps to walk outside an instance.
most of my ideas which have been added to the game, havenât had any replies at all.
they sink like rocks, but apparently still get seen by the people who need to see them.
That example says that people do not have experience with what theyâre talking about.
And if anything the problem with the playerbase is that they have too much experience, even more than a lot of devs when it comes to the game.
Sure, folks come up with cool ideas and when asked the barebone criticism of those ideas the immediate response is akin to that one you provided here:
âWhy must you be against it so much? Let me strawman you into oblivion for not immediately agreeing with my idea!â
Using the monkey-ladder analogy, a more accurate depiction of these forums would be the following:
The monkey ladder is a great analogy ⊠but not so much in terms of folks opinions on GD but rather the people who face any reasonable counter argument, which then devolves into the use of strawmen arguments, ad hominen attacks, and a myriad of other aspects
And its usually done by the one âwho posted that really cool ideaâ
The reason? What people considers a âreally new and cool ideaâ on these forums generally speaking are things that have either a) been tested; b) already in the game (and OPâs lack of interest in it proving its not even desireable by them either); or c) have good explanations that users that spam the same tirade of ânew opinionsâ or ânew insightsâ over and over again simply doesnât like
No, once upon a time GD wasnât full of trolls and folks pretending to not be trolling but the game is over 20 years old and most folks who engage on social media has been raised to think that âtrollingâ is to some degree an acceptable behaviour online meaning that places wherein trolls have fewer and fewer self-regulating community members the more toxic and trollish the forums become
They made another thread a couple of days ago wherein they wanted to add a vendor to Stratholme so they wouldnât have to use a toy, a mount (not sure if Stratholme is mountable but still), or anything else like the personal vendors
And they pretty explicitly said âI have been farmingâ so they quite explicitly wanted it to be added to just benefit themselves not having to use any myriad of the other solutions available to 'em
A lot of the ideas that this happens to are ideas that only benefit people who play the game in 1 specific way, and would have a negative effect on people who play in a bunch of other ways.
Yeah, theyâre also known as white-knights (they know who they are too)
They never have anything of substance to say, usually just a snarky one-liner. They have no interesting threads or posts to their name, itâs all generic ânoâ one-liners for the most part
Speaking of them, said posters are curiously absent from this thread⊠so far
I suspect a large # of them are only subbed to the game for the purpose of using these forums too When you pull up their armory these individuals have no notable achievements (including PvE, PvP, collections, etc) that would indicate they actually play the game regularly
Iâve had some ideas before but they usually donât affect many or do much for the game.
Usually I think of them when Iâm doing something particular. Like I made a Tauren shaman and thought, âman I wish we had a moose ghost wolf formâ and even thought to come to the forums to say it. But itâs just because I made that character that Iâm probably not even going to play much.
So I get like 10 or 3 responses and that is that. Usually someone either finds something wrong with it or like a couple people agree.
