Something I have noticed and that is a very common theme is that many of the players who dislike current expansions are players who play this game solo and try to make it a single player game. Of course this isn’t a one-size-fits-all trend.
World of Warcraft has never been geared towards having a great single player experience, ever. It never has and doubtfully never will. There hasn’t been a single expansion, nor “classic”, that offered an amazing single player experience. Most all endgame content has been geared towards group content. About the only things I can imagine that a solo player could do would be pet battle, RP with themselves, collect stuff, do achievements that don’t require other players, or endlessly level alts. I can’t speak for anyone but myself but none of that sounds even remotely entertaining.
Instead of hating the game, when it isn’t geared towards a single player experience, give group content a try. I know that group content and guilds can sound pretty horrible to someone who has never participated in them since there are many horror stories on the forum but they aren’t bad at all. There are many groups who stick to basic content like normal raiding and lower keys. But you can’t just join a guild and expect to be taken under their wing and given a free ride, you need to be social with people and speak up some. You need to ask people if anyone wants to go do such and such, or sign up for events. Many guilds offer alt runs for normal and heroic raids, tell them you want to come along to see what it’s like and more than likely they’ll let you tag along.
In the end you have to reach out to others, they won’t always reach out to you. Give group content a chance and you might find this game to be what it supposed to be, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game.
Edit:even the start of this thread shows the very trend this post is about. Players who play solo and aren’t having a fun time really should try group content. There are many outlets to find others with likeminded interests.
You still can enter battlegrounds on your own. Before you comment on players having better gear, well, that’s always been a thing. There have always been players out there in amazing gear steamrolling players in not-so-amazing gear.
If anything it’s easier now more than it ever has been in WoW to find groups to do battlegrounds with. Not only can you use the old tried and true method of friends and guildies on your own server but now we have the group finder to list for groups, communities, and we have access to countless discords for likeminded players.
Cool story, people have paid for carries since the start of WoW. This thread has nothing to do with paying for carries though. You can do the same content you’d be buying a carry for if you made friends.
So they never offered it means they shouldn’t even try to make it at least decent? why are you coming up with excuses?
You say it doesn’t sound entertaining, but you’re just one individual and people should have the choice to play the game they subbed the way they want to play.
Multiplayer AND solo gameplay deserves to be good.
So make some new ones. I don’t really know what else to tell you but you seem angry and spiteful for whatever reason. Have yourself a great rest of the day.
That’s not an excuse, that’s a basic observation.
Agreed, never once did I mention that players shouldn’t have the choice to play how they want.
One shouldn’t expect an amazing solo experience in an mmorpg, this genre is and always has been geared towards group content.
Almost the entirety of my wow years have been spent as a casual battleground pvper and i have never seen bgs this bad. Its actually horrible
I have a partner to pvp with so all of my alts get 1800 relatively easily, so gear isnt an issue for me, however a lot of people do not have friends who are competent in pvp enough to get rating with them. So its not as easy as just making a friend and suddenly your gear lets you do random bgs. If you make a friend and that friend doesn’t know how to trade cds properly you’re not going anywhere
if I’d thrown my hands up and bemoaned the fact that my friends left the game and by god that meant I couldn’t do anything ever again… I’d have quit the game 13 years ago.
You’re clearly making excuses. Two bads don’t make a right and you probably know that already. You’re contradicting yourself with the rest. “one shouldn’t expect an amazing solo experience in a mmo etc.” So solo content should be an inferior choice automatically? That’s absurd. take for example runescape, amazing solo questing and activities but guess what, the multiplayer content is also awesome. You’re not seeing very far.
I have played this game since 2008 I have like 10 of my own guilds with my toons only. I’m going to be 60 come May I wouldn’t dare join a guild or look for friends on the internet tyvm Stranger Danger.
I’ll throw some examples your way of having a great single player experience:
The bulk of legion artifact appearances
The legion storylines
The WoD garrison (arguably too good compared to the rest of the game available at the time, lol. That was it’s biggest issue.)
Professions pre-WoD
Emissary quests/Rep building
Isle of Thunder/ Timeless Isle in MoP
Questing/Leveling is the biggest bit of content created in an expansion.
Unlocking zones like AQ, Quel’danas, Argent Tourney, Molten Front, etc…
Tillers farm
Horrific Visions
There’s more if you want more. But this game has ALWAYS had some great solo player content, and they still design it for Shadowlands. The issue isn’t the content itself or existence of it, it’s the value of it.
They took so much value out of solo content this expansion to appease progression players that they wound up completely turning away the people who were enjoying it.
But to say that this has never been a great single-player experience is completely asinine.
Listen, I don’t have trouble finding a group, I just don’t enjoy always finding a group or doing things with other people. If that’s not how you play, then that’s fine. Don’t pretend you know how everyone else plays.
For people who like questing, nearly the entire game, aside from endgame, is solo-friendly. There are times where you might want to group with the people who are doing the same content, but for the most part, Exile’s Reach, Chromie Time, garrisons, artifacts, class halls, invasion points, and now the Shadowlands questline, are all designed for soloing, up to a point. Once you desire high-end gear, that’s where the game tends to shift to a multi-player focus.
But the thing is they have done engaging solo content in the past. No one is asking for the entire game to be made into a solo experience but comparable content to stuff like the Mage Tower or the Brawler’s Guild would be nice to see.
