Something doesn't sit right about Faerin Lothar

we already know that, the expedition that formed what is today the arathi empire was comprised of both humans and some high elves that went with them. over 1000 years or whatever they interbred, so basically everyone is a high elf now

She’s obviously a Nerubian psy-op plant. Twists abound!

She wasn’t 100% of the time. And you’re right in a game that I’ve spent literal hundreds of hours already more in (TWW vs BG3), it’s really unfair to expect Karlach to be significantly better in every way who only gets ~2 hours of voice lines at best) to be THAT better of a character to one who has an ‘impact’ in one of the major zones, is constantly around Calliuo, and is now a main part of the whole story for this expansion.

Ok, I’ll bite. Maybe you’re not aware of some things you say being what they generally are.

Please elaborate. What is Faerin’s greatest feat? What needs explanation? What does she do better than every other lore character in this high fantasy game?

‘dog whistle’

Ah so you’re one of those. Just remember, a ‘dog whistle’ is a signal that only ‘dogs’ can hear. So you’re just someone chasing after anything you deem as ‘one of them’. Checks out then why you defend Checkboxia so hard and can’t fathom why anyone would be displeased with the actual offensively lack of writing they gave her. Good day, weirdo

The entire game is soft now and with each update it gets worse.

nah, you already overplayed your hand and poisoned the well. We’re done with this conversation.

Her voice is wonderful, I would prefer to hear melodic feminine voices over gruff and grunty ones.

her problem is her buckles. See, she’s pulling on her buckles in the cinematic. But they’re box-style buckles. You don’t pull on those. You pull on ring style buckles. So all she’s doing is potentially damaging the clasp holes. She’s too careless with her wardrobe. “He will know your ways…”

Which doesn’t seem to add up when Faerin is a half elf herself and goes by Lothar who was on a ship she wasn’t suppose to be on. Unless I was missing something big the first time I was paying attention to everything they were saying through every quest involving them. I imagine half elves have extended lifespan which would add up then but I don’t recall them explaining that bit yet.

That’s the part that confuses me, while its currently satisfactory as it is open ended but what bothers me is why we haven’t seen more half elves? Why was the Lothar lineage not explored when we have Faerin here? How come is it ALL Half Elves and not some of them that stayed behind that we haven’t heard sooner of? Probably stuff I may have missed but ever since the “Ship that sailed” with Faerin Lothar she sneaked onboard to, it is leaving some holes to fill. That would mean Faerin is 1000 years old if the kingdom of Arathor existed before the existence split into the kingdoms we know today.

There’s this weird trend I’ve noticed where female characters in a traditionally male-dominated setting aren’t welcomed with open arms unless they’re essentially men with breasts.

There’s a reason so many dudes always point to Ellen Ripley and Samus Aran as “Acceptable Female Characters” and they roll their eyes when a woman expresses softness or emotion.

Just because she’s a traumatized warrior doesn’t mean she can’t still be soft.

She has a lot of writing, it’s good quality as well. It’s there, right in the game. She’s very well developed for a new character. She’s not doing anything amazing other than keeping her faith and hope alive after tragedies, much like Karlach in a way.

She helps out at an orphanage, we do a story about that which explains her character very well and why she was a good fit to help Anduin, as their community helps others, and the story shows us what happens to some who lose their faith. It’s a great story, it’s deep, it’s well thought out.

But you keep throwing out these crazy buzzwords that only really lousy people use. Makes me think that no level of writing would appeal to you.

It has nothing to do with the quality. Good day.

You can tell an audience what someone feels. That is how it works in books and other mediums were facial expressions and body language are not used to express emotion. WoW character models and body movements just are not capable of that range of emotion.

As a combat veteran one thing I can say with confidence is that there’s no room for ‘feels’ when stuff hits the fan. This reality changes people. It doesn’t make monsters out of everyone, but it quickly forces them put things into perspective.

Veterans can be caring and thoughtful, but when lives are at stake, as they seem to be in Hallowfall, there’s precious little time for fannying about, showing weakness and getting all wrapped up in your emotional state.

If your goal is to save your people there’s little time to be playing patty-cake at the orphanage.

I think they’ve made a mistake in trying to make a post-war veteran out of someone in the middle of a conflict.

Zelensky might visit orphanages, but he isn’t also fighting on the front line. They’ve tried to make here TOO much hero AND victim.

I like her, but I don’t find her believable. They took too much warrior out of someone at war.

But have you been a combat veteran in a high fantasy setting with a teen rating?

I wonder if this game would ever consider moving up the rating, considering that the majority of its players are in the 30+ range. Teens aren’t flocking to WoW anymore.

Fixed that for you.

So tired of everyone wanting Anduin to be just another jock meathead tuff guy.

He’s a very emotional character … and that’s ok. It’s entirely the point of what makes him different from every other “leader” stereotype that people keep trying to ram him into.

People around here won’t be happy until he has some super saiyan moment where he rips off his shirt and has 50 pound pecks that he just has to flex to knock out the enemy.

He could still be an emotional guy to do that.

I’d like to see more of his dad come out a bit. Get through the trauma and come back as a fighter for righteousness. I think those 50lb pecks of piety will show themselves soon enough.

I mean, technically since Dec '05.

Even in a fantasy setting my raid leader doesn’t want to hear about how bummed I am that I died, or why I died, or what sensational bologna it is that I’m dead, etc.

“Keep coms clear,” isn’t any less real than the real thing.

I mean, it kinda did, its not like it was moving away from us when the game started.

Did you listen to his new dialogue at the end of the questline that just came out a couple days ago?
