Someone needs to look at class balance

Frost mage is in a terrible place right now. The fact that a pure dps class is dead last in damage speaks volumes. Whoever is in charge of class balance should be fired at this point. Its not just mages either. The difference between top dps classes and bottom dps classes is astronomical. On top of that many hybrid classes are top dps right now while pure dps classes sit middle of the pack to the bottom in terms of dps output. It wouldnt be a big deal if top dps was ~500 dps total from the worst dps spec but its not. Its a huge difference to the point that bad players are beating amazing players in raid dps by a large margin. That is not fun or good design. It seems very lazy and incompetent for a game that generates billions of dollars. Please someone fix this damn game.

I keep seeing this, saw one yesterday talking about hybrid classes being better. Do you think blizzard balances specs based on the other specs in their class? No.

Lol.

Being a pure dps class just means you have a higher chance of one of your specs not being trash at dps, it doesn’t mean you are entitled to be top dps.

I agree we don’t have to be top but a 25% dps difference between top specs and bottom specs in an expansion where we craft spec specific legendaries with a time gated currency is bad balance.

Blizzard you should either balance better or refund soul ash in some way.

I’m down for either option but leaving the way it is is neglect of your players.

Like I said it wouldnt be a big deal to me if the dps difference overall was ~500 or less. I could care less whos top or bottom dps at that point it would give everyone a chance to pull legit dps. It is the pure disparity between top and bottom that is terrible design.

Class Balance isn’t “all about the numbers”. There are many other variables and considerations that go into class balance.

Blizzard’s class design philosophy doesn’t echo class balance as a whole or even remotely to even attempt to achieve it.

Trust me, mages, especially frost is in a bad spot. I feel like the game is extremely anti-mage. Especially Frost.

Frostbolt is our primary ability to fish for procs to deal any kind of damage. If we get silenced or interrupted we’re done. There needs be a way for better survivability for Frost because our snares/roots are easily mitigated in pve and pvp gameplay.

I wrote a way to change up some core mechanics on the Mage Forums for Frost.

I know that feral and balance seem to be doing pretty good at the moment from what people are saying. But speaking as a largely pve feral cat, we’ve been at the bottom for a long time - since WoD I was declined for LFG because of my spec. Legion was ok at the end once you got the right legendaries, but it was only a bandaid for some design insufficiencies.

That being said, knowing what it feels like to be there, I think OP is right, I think there should be little disparity between the DPS classes so everybody can feel that they bring something to the table and not feel like a pixel-pariah. I don’t want to see mages or anyone sitting that far at the bottom.

I’m sorry but it is likely you were mislead to believe that this particular expansion valued balance?

Everything about it is Feel. Ion even wanted you to FEEL like you identify as an “Covenant of your choice” Mage, not a Fire or Frost. He wanted you to FEEL powerful in some scenarios and not as so in others. He didn’t want you to be good at everything.

That was their stated goal. They knew balance wasn’t going to exist, and tried to prepare you for that. Sometimes people tell you their intentions even when you aren’t listening.

I dunno bro, just gotta roll with the punches amigo. :grimacing:

Signing on to this. I am seeing certain classes with alot less gear pulling even and ahead of me in both aoe and single target dps. Its disheartening really

Hybrid class tax does not exist anymore. I’m tired of seeing this argument as to why hybrids should suck dps wise. If you want hybrids to do less damage so bad then we should get rid of all the utility the pure dps classes have. If them being a pure dps means they should do more damage, they shouldnt also have as much utility as they have as well.

Frost DK is lower middle of the pack, Frost mage is the absolute bottom of pure single target and especially terrible for Sire. Mythic remains to be seen.

I wouldn’t expect further changes until the world first race is over, but here are definitely some issues.

This is the worst tier in recent memory for Mythic raiding in terms of melee vs ranged.

I mean…come on Blizzard…
Why the hell mages got 3 DPS specs for?
ppl roll mage cause they wanna do a sh*t ton of damage, perform well in different types of content…
So far we can see Fire doing good in M+… and that’s it!
Hybrids can do better damage, tank, heal… whole package, depending on the Class.
The one thing mages should be really good at, they arent.
Lame.

DPS Warrior is going to need some buffs.

The only person entitled to be top DPS is the person crazy enough to level and maintain an alt of every class.

Frost needs some help right now, though I don’t think you’re arguing against that. We’re even in the dumpster on fights that people thought we would theoretically excel on. I’d like to wait for more Mythic data or to see how we scale with crit and haste given IP + Thermal Void increasing IV uptime, but community perception of Frost is terrible right now and it’ll remain that way until we’re listed in some tuning notes with a big number in the notes. It stings worse since we’re the odd man out of the class going Venthyr.
