Some thoughts on future of RSS

In LoL, we have a solo queue and a flex queue, (solo being the RSS equivalent and Flex queue being the 2s/3s equivalent).
In LoL Solo queue is the main mode, flex queue is largely neglected by players and is a casual premade lobby (easier to rank up than the solo queue).

RSS is by far more popular than 2s/3s now. The addition of Voice Chat in RSS might help skyrocket the quality of the mode in addition to expected quality-of-life improvements to RSS and its queue times. Blizzard could so some work in improving Arena UI and implementing features in the game (like DR tracking and updated arena frames) that would take the place of some 3rd party addons - this would make PvP even more convenient and accessible to new players.

We could expect that with RSS quality improving it grows more and more competitive and popular, so much so that the implementation of main PvP rewards is shifted towards RSS and away from 2’s/3’s (and the community will largely be okay with this).

Rating is replaced with ranks (because thats more appealing than a flat number with no visual). Rewards vary according to rank (recolors like we have for LFR, Normal, HC, Mythic etc…) And of course, mount will be eventually shifted to RSS as a reward.

TLDR: RSS will receive all of blizzards love including queue and reward improvement while continuously gaining in popularity and comeptitiveness. 2s/3s will become casual/chill mode to queue with friends. (Like most other successful PvP games)

Good bait.

Not bait, just my thoughts hence the title… It’s not like most PvP games operate on this kind of PvP schematic as described… oh wait, they do and it works…

I mean you can be rhetorical all you want, but there’s legitimate arguments revolving around the competitive ceiling for RSS/Solo queue modes. At the end of the day, if RSS manages to double or triple the PvP population then by default we are already statistically talking about a more competitive version of PvP than currently exists.

LoL has a solo queue mode as the most competitive mode, but E-Sports in LoL still functions as premade groups of professional players. Theres no reason to think that the same scenario is not applicable here, where RSS b becomes vastly more competitive than 2s/3s and from there teams are scouted and constructed for Esport 3’s premade.

2s/3s type game modes will most be reserved for skirmishes amongst competitive teams who are intending on pursuing the E-sport version of the game, whilst also existing as a casual mode for premades who just want to have fun together. RSS is where professionals are made and found before moving to 2s/3s. This isn’t some kind of wildly inconceivable structure - it’s literally the structure for most PvP games: A player is pushed into RSS and then exceptionally talented players climb that ladder before being scouted or forming E-sport teams.

Standardization to the UI’s on blizzards part will obviously make the scene more cohesive and enjoyable to watch. They sort of already have this worked out with AWC UI but for some reason, they haven’t fleshed that out to implement in-game as a standard UI option.

For starters, I believe in game voice chat does work in rss, could be wrong

Second, why should rss have the rewards from 3s moved over and not its own unique rewards?

I discredit posts like yours because they’re typically from people with made up reasons as to why they’ve never gotten glad asking for welfare rewards

The fact that youre posting from a lvl 48 doesn’t provide any reason as to why I shouldn’t think you’re another troll

Does work ? Im not sure it does… never heard anyone use it and I sure dont know how to.

Right now, there’s no real reason. However, once RSS is polished and queue times fixed, simply because it will make the game mode more popular than it already is. A game mode that is more popular (aka has more participants) inherently is more competitive, since the likelihood for talent is obviously tied to how many people actually play the mode.

I’m a noob at PvP, but I enjoy it, these are just my thoughts and I am not talking senselessly, just sharing my reasoning for those thoughts.

I’m down for unique rewards in each. But if Blizzard doesn’t want to give resources to both (for whatever reason, financial, time, etc.) then they’re going to give it to RSS purely because of the popularity of the mode.

This is literally inevitable. Theres no way blizzard doesn’t shift major PvP rewards to RSS, whilst also making improvements to the mode, in hopes of double downing on its popularity.

Ok but you think rss is more competitive I don’t understand why you think that

Popularity does not equal competitiveness and the way wow is designed not all specs have the same solo q viability

I dont like the voice Idea, dont wanna listen to random trolls, nasty creeps, or Tich server players screaming at everyone lol. And adding voice would allow the rank 1 players to better play as a group selling ratings.

the R1 rmt 3v3s racket is dieing, if the parasite does not find a new host, it will not survive.

Didn’t read but yes agreed I hope RSS crashes and burns too good talk

Good question.

I don’t think RSS is more competitive right now. I think it WILL be more competitive. Why do I think this?

RSS is popular, but thats not necessarily what will make it competitive, correct? Instead, what will make it competitive is the constant development and improvement that Blizzard give to RSS. Why will blizzard choose to improve RSS instead of 2’s/3;s, because its popular and popular = more engagement = more profit for blizzard.

RSS will become the most competitive because it will receive the most love. The rewards and quality of game play for RSS will be prioritized over 2’s/3’s since double downing a seemingly successful mode will presumably solidify that mode as the primary mode of engagement.

When they move rewards, and improve queue time, and the ranking system, everyone will go to RSS, and 2’s/3’s will become a casual mode to play with friends and relax.

Every day you hear the screams and crying on R1 players on the forums over Rated Solo Shuffle.

They know the Gravy train is over, ratings and Glad mount sales are in the gutter thanks to RSS. They have been making a full time living off of 3v3s for over a decade, selling ratings, its created a whole sub industry.

The Tapeworms that they are, they know the host (3v3) is dieing, if they do not find a new body, they are finished. Time to sell the gaming condo and move back in w their parents. Time to take up new things like becoming a sandwich artist or fast routes to deliver pizzas.

Just like LFR is the most popular raid mode, RSS will continue to be the most popular arena mode. Predicting that season 2 will have gladiator mounts and title for RSS, and regular arena rating removed and becoming a casual mode to practice in.

Interesting comparison. Is this what has happened to heroic and mythic raiding relative to lfr

I think not, which would actually be a good counterpoint to my thread. But I would say that this may not translate to the PvP scene. Anyone is free to correct me here, but my guess is that normal + raiding has been doing relatively fine and remains successful PvE content throughout the years, whilst PvP has been on a relative steady decline. Which would encourage blizzard to make more radical changes thus undermining this counte point that is presented.

Random group voice chat is an awful idea.

  1. Zoomers like to play their mumble rap through headsets.

  2. I’m too old to fight and argue with strangers like it’s a Halo 2 lobby.

If you actually believe this, you’re an idiot.

I wouldn’t call him an idiot. Although I don’t think it will happen over the course of 1 season, I do think 2s/3s will become the casual mode (but rating will not be removed).
