Since this is the official place for feedback, I wanted to share my thoughts on the small chance they get read. Right now, I don’t enjoy Shadowlands. It’s not fun for me to play which is why I’ve cut back.
I understand given the state of the game, how software development works, etc that “fixing” Shadowlands to make it fun for me isn’t possible. So in 10.0, here are the things I’d like to see that would make wow become “fun for me” again.
Get rid of the Chores
- As a player, its not fun to feel like I have a to do list each week that I need to accomplish before I can do what I actually want to do in the game
- Content should enable me become more powerful within that content (i.e. if I pvp, I want the reward structure to help me do more pvp, if I raid - raid, etc) As someone who is a wow vet since Vanilla, I no longer have the time to no life the game.
Stop following the “ABK Casino” gaming model
- I don’t want to chase the GV for an upgrade, farm rep for a paragon cache to get a mount or pet, or pray that the right Shard drops in raid. That’s just not fun. If there’s a mount or pet associated with a rep, let me earn it. Keep the paragon cache for gold, herbs, pots, etc (that’s ok)
- Reputatition grinds aren’t fun. I’m ok with time gating rewards. The current path to complete them though isn’t fun. I’d much rather have fewer reps and system that told a story (think Suramar without the dailies) than lots of reps and lots of dailies
- No more Artifact power, Anima power, etc. It’s tedious and isn’t enjoyable
Focus on class balance and design
- I don’t want external systems to interact with character power. There are way too many “tuning knobs”. Simple is better. Just stick to that.
- Balance classes so that DPS/Healing/Utility are more or less equal. A good example of this is comparing say a Resto Druid to a Holy Paladin. H Pal clearly offers more than the Druid in almost all forms of content (equal healing, more DPS, more effective unique utility, better CDs, etc). This should be fixed and brought more in line for a wide variety of specs
What I’d like to see added
- Keep upcycling old content like the Mage Tower and Legion M+. This is an easy win and should always be available
- Guild housing with individual instanced player rooms
- Design focused on player choice: Give us the option to choose our quest responses and let us see the impact of those choices. No more King’s Rest/Spires style dungeons, the Free Hold style was more fun.
- More class/character customization options (think height, hair styles, emotes, dances, unique armor sets, etc)
- Updated spell graphics and cast animations
- A focus on the player not the class. I’d love it if any character could play any spec at any time. FF14 has this and being able to switch jobs not characters is great and so much more player friendly.
And finally, get rid of the wow token’s ability to buy gold. This has created a game dynamic that is toxic to wow. It’s fine for players to buy the token to buy game time or a shop mount but selling the token for wow gold should simply not be allowed. Boosting and pay to win kills the RPG aspect of this game.
Anyway, rant over. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk if you got this far.
