Some Holy Priest questions

I’m new to holy priest and there’s a few things I’m not sure about

  1. When do we use circle of healing?

This spell seems so weak, and has a cd. It’s nice that it’s instant but it hardly heals for anything. How do I use it optimally? Is there any way to empower it maybe?

  1. Apotheosis

Is there a “most effective” rotation during Apotheosis? The cd is cool, but I feel like I’m not using it right.

  1. Renew

This spell is odd to me. It’s a hot yes, but our mastery is a hot, so Renew seems kind of pointless in a way. How do I best utilize it? Mostly I only cast it when we’re running between packs or something and people need topping off. Should I be maintaining this at all during combat?

  1. Power Word: Shield

How should I be using this? I was using it for a little bit because I chose the Body and Soul talent, but I realized Angelic Feather has no mana cost compared to shields 1200 (it might be 1500), so I switched to feather. Now shield is just kind of this awkward spell I have but don’t know when to use

Those are the major question I had about the spec so far. If I think of more I’ll add them.

I’d really appreciate some insight from more experienced holy priests. Currently I’m just smashing heal buttons in a panic and hoping no one dies :sweat_smile:

  1. When do we use circle of healing?

Pretty much use it on cooldown when multiple people are injured. It it heals for a decent amount, doesn’t cost much mana, and is a relatively smart heal in that it will always hit injured targets in larger groups.

  1. Apotheosis

Primarily used to heal/flash heal spam for quick serenity resets in dungeons and pvp. Make sure to put serenity and sanctify on cooldown before using it.

  1. Renew

It’s not really worth casting during combat. Pre-HoTing people between packs is fine. Sometimes you can put it on people if everyone is full hp and you know they are about to take a lot of damage, IF you think that is more important than contributing damage.

  1. Power Word: Shield

You don’t really use it at all as holy. Maybe put it on the tank between packs in dungeons if you have literally nothing better to do and aren’t worried about mana.

  1. CoH & PoM are used on cooldown basically. They utilize smart AI so will prioritize low hp targets over high hp. Their healing isn’t much, but they’re our two filler spells we use inbetween our primary heals.

  2. The best way to use Apotheosis is for single target healing. You cast Serenity then Flash Heal/Heal until it resets which is 2-3 casts. It’s your big emergency heal button.

  3. Renew is one of the few heals you can use while mobile. It’s good for topping people off if the group is moving around a lot or if you want to pre-hot a group wide damage over time mechanic in some dungeons.

  4. PWS is mainly just used as your “oh crap” button to mitigate some incoming damage or if somebody is really low hp and you just want to save them. For solo world content you cast it on yourself so you can prevent spell pushback.
