Dracthyr have wings. It’s stupid that they can only use them to fly every ~4 minutes. Soar can be kept how it is, but a flight spell needs to be added that can replace a regular flying mount. If druids can shapeshift into a bat, bird, or pterrodax and fly then shouldn’t a race that is already “shapeshifed” into a draconid be able to do the same?
Transmog is very limited, especially considering over a decade of neglect regarding mail armor design. Unlinking visage / non-visage xmog, allowing for more armor slots to be displayed, or just adding new mail armor sets designed with dracthyr in mind would all work. For example, it would be great to see a new set added to the MT when it’s back up that not only looks amazing, but can be fully displayed in both forms.
The color options for dracthyr do not match the colors of some of the dragonflights. Specifically, the green is not the same green as many of the emerald drakes, and the red is not the same red as many of the red drakes. The bronze, blue, and black appear to be close enough though. I believe the light blue variant is spot on.
More color options for barbershop armor would be nice as well. This kind of ties in with the issue of limited xmog options, as it can be difficult matching shoulders to the limited number of colors available for dracthyr armor.
Wrathion says that your visage is how you wish other people to see you, but said visage is limited to male belf and female human with elf ears. Chromie is a female gnome, Kalecgos and Wrathion a male human, Ysera a female night elf, Ebonhorn a highmountain tauren, etc. I understand that more work would need to be done to add the amazing visage customization options available to the current two, but it seems contradictory to the stated purpose of a draconid visage to limit players this way.
That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. Other than these issues, I must say I really do like the design of the class. It feels and plays different than everything else, which makes for a nice change of pace. It just needs a bit more vanity polish
Ideally, they need to make Dracythr Soar the same as Dragon Riding. Have all the abilities improved by the Rues that you collect (I believe they did add this to beta to a degree after I switched to another game). But they need to remove the cooldown and base it on how many riding charges you have.
The only downside to this is that you could expend all your charges and then not be able to fly at all, but this would be no different from any other class/race that does the same thing.
In zones other than dragon isles, it should work just like a normal flying mount, so you hit soar and it just takes off and hovers, allowing you to fly as you would normally (if they’re really that bothered about it being so much faster and cooler etc…, but ultimately they should just let us have it, and maybe just disable the dragon riding bonus’ outside of dragon isles - if anything).
I would rather it be kept separate. Soar to act as dragonriding in areas that have it enabled, and a separate flying mount that uses our wings as an appearance. Otherwise you end up with a situation where they add dragonriding to the old world one day, and you can no longer fly normally.
Good to have a choice which you would want to do.
But yeh, if Soar used even the base vigor system you could stay in the air indefinitely with a bit of work. Unfortunately it’s basically three skills and you have to land right now.
They must give us dragon riding everywhere else after dragonflight, otherwise there will be havoc. Dragon riding is so much fun, it completely changes how you play the game, and having that only available in a zone that you’ll never go back to after the expansion is done is very very bad.
They don’t need to turn off other mounts, that too would be bad. But they need to make dragon riding a thing everywhere that you can fly.
They could even make it a toggle that applies to all mounts. So you can choose to use dragon riding or normal flying mechanics for all mounts.
And yes, if it does use Vigor now, you can use it to travel the dragon isles without landing no problem. The issue is the cooldown. Having an arbitrary cooldown on a class fantasy ability that has no impact on other players whatsoever is really stupid.
Flying is special in wow. Druids are a special class =P
All jokes aside soar should be just like shape shifting into travel form. Let us run on the ground or fly. Maybe finally a second class that can herb without having to use the broken mech that cant fly straight.
I dont jive well with the blood elf male model and would be nice to have the magic power to choose a different form. Arnt dragons gifted with magic? But we are limited on how we want to present ourselves and how far we can cast our magic but we can fly and move fast. Go figure.
It would of been nice to actually have access to the Beta and I would of put my feedback in and would of tested the class unlike some streamers just login once make a video and logout. I never got access and now I get to test the class on a LIVER RETAIL server . Plenty of bug/submissions sent.
Nobody cares what streamers do or don’t do, and the only ones that I know of that played it played it constantly.
There were a LOT of people playing beta, there were full guilds going, it was as active as live imho, and there were 3 realms.
You’re not giving any feedback that hasn’t already been given, the general consensus was that we should be able to fly without a long cooldown. You having beta access wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Good news on the herbs aspect at least. All classes will be able to gather from mounts now. At least in Dragonflight. You just need to train the appropriate section of your gathering tree.
As for Visages… They reused the same model, but I do not think they are meant to be Blood Elf or Human specifically. I think they are just meant to be their own basic race with basic skintones and pointy ears. I almost wish Blizz had made their own model so it would get that across a little better, but eh.
Wrathion and Ebonhorn are guiding you from what you know, but Dracthyr are not like Dragons. Their Visage is different. They talk about it between themselves later on. They do not know why it was different than “normal” but muse that they might find out later on.
I do think more choice would have been great, but in this case it’s not a case of them choosing Blood Elf or Human. That’s just how their mortal type forms look on the whole as a race for some reason.
This, unfortunately. I must have left so many posts pointing out that it was silly that they didn’t get a flying skill, and that Soar was as limited as it was, but they fell on deaf ears. Last we had heard about it they made a few surface changes because people had been complaining that it wasn’t worth pressing, while still not changing any of the reasons it wasn’t worth pressing. -_-
But yeh, it’s been argued and pointed out many a time. Unfortunately we are dealing with people who really, really do not want their winged race to fly. Either that or legitimately can’t understand why people want this and think we are just overreacting to having to use mounts.
Their ‘excuse’ is that people will complain that it’s too overpowered when they see Dracthyr zooming about in Azeroth. I’m all for having the cooldown in the rest of Azeroth (during DF until Dragonriding unlocks for all of the world), but having it on a CD in Dragon Isles is just dumb, it doesn’t make sense, and they have various abilities in game that have different cooldowns depending on the content you’re playing - so why not this?
Sadly, i’m disappointed that Dracthyr aren’t just Visages that can turn in to full blown dragons and fly about and carry people. I wanted to be an actual dragon, not some wannabe humanoid drake.
Ahh, that’s where we differ. I actually love the Dracthyr. I suppose since I already play an MMO where I can play a full dragon race, I kinda like the hybrid idea. EQ2 had hybrids too, but they looked a lot more Elf and a lot less Dragon.
Soar’s main problem is that the cooldown starts when you land, and that the skills do not recharge in air. If the cooldown refreshed from use and we had some in air skill recharge, it would go a long way into making it feel less awful to use. Their reasoning of not wanting it to feel like dragonriding is moot since it will always feel like dragonriding as they use the same system. Soar just feels like a very much worse version of dragonriding.
I do agree that having full use of it in the old world when no one else can dragonride is unfair, but to that I just say add dragonriding mounts to the old world. Or just disable Soar and give Dracthyr a Flying Wild kind of skill for non dragonriding zones.
On beta I did switch between Soar and Dragonriding while levelling, but usually because I didn’t have enough Vigor yet to get very far, so i’d use Soar to get up high, then my dragon mount to fly far. So it’s not completely wasted, but that should not be the only use case for it, because once i’d unlocked half the tree, it was no longer necessary to use Soar.
I think just reducing the speed of it to that of a normal flying mount would be perfectly fine. There’s no need for a long cooldown or to disable it entirely. It is after all basically our ONLY racial ability, so to have it disabled in the vast majority of the game would be terrible. I could live with it working the same as dragon riding in the rest of Azeroth, just only at 310% instead of 650% or whatever it is. For now anyway.
I literally had no reason to use it after I got the base drake. I picked that thing up and then flew around the Isle without stopping to grab all the glyphs. It takes a bit of work, but the fact that you can recharge vigor in air made it better than using Soar. Once you get the talent tree filled out though, vigor might as well not even exist. I basically only used Soar for super quick hops, or fun flying around Valdrakken where there were updrafts.
I am not sure dragonriding at 310 speed wouldn’t feel awful. I would honestly just prefer two skills. Soar as dragonriding, and Flying Wild as a mount skill. That way, in areas which inevitably get both, you would be able to choose which you like. Sometimes you just want to slow fly and hover in the air. Sometimes you want to go fast like a missile and swoop and dive everywhere.
But yeh… that is one of the things that so frustrates me with Soar. The fact that a fully upgraded Soar is still worse than the very base drake. It can go as fast, aye, but it has a cooldown and you have to land after using the skills. The base drake has no cooldown, and you can circle around a tree to recharge vigor without landing if you wish. It certainly takes work since base vigor recharge rates are awful, but you can. Soar just forces you to the ground.
Edit: When I say a bit of work I mean it’s a pain, but I am used to GW2’s Griffon which can’t gain height beyond what it started with and I am stubborn. With the base drake I did a lot of laps around mountains recharging vigor since in air recharge is faster than ground recharge. Heh, and that is still better than Soar because at least I had that option.
Sounds like you might not have played before the more recent Vigor changes. Initially it was almost impossible to keep your drake in the air, although the last round of changes I tested I kept on wasting Vigor because take off was not working properly and I would just expend Vigor without going anywhere.
Initially I made it all the way to about 65 before I started looking for Glyphs, so i’d only found about 3 or 4 by that point, and having only 3 Vigor, that runs out almost instantly when you take off, and isn’t enough to get up to high points on its own, Soar became a really useful thing to have.
Since they buffed dragon riding though, Soar isn’t as useful, however if it is now using Vigor (as some people have said it does - I never experienced that myself), then it may still serve some use, for example jumping between ore/herb nodes when your Vigor is on CD.
I have been in beta since about the start of October. It was possible to stay in the air with the base drake (at least it was then), it just took a lot of stubbornness. I would fly up as high as I could go, and then circle on the flattest decline I could until I gained a point, and then repeated that til I was as high as I wanted to be. Then I would take off, repeating the process in the air if I needed to.
Not for everyone, but I am weird.
Edit: Soar does not use vigor. I wish it did… but alas. We still get three skills and then have to land. Good news about the herbing stuff though. When I was gathering with the max drake I was bouncing around from herb to herb and never ran out. Max drake talents are amazing. Vigor like water.
I think I started beta in July or August, probably a week or two before they increased the speed etc… With the full tree unlocked I could almost go herbing entirely without running out of Vigor, I just needed to regen when I got low which took a minute out of my herb farm. But initially the herb tracking was broken and I only had 3 Vigor and it was pre dragonriding tree buffs, so I was constantly out of Vigor.
It’s come a long way since then. Having a backup way to get around (such as Soar) is definitely going to help when you do run out of Vigor. For fast charging you can just go to the top of a cliff, set your bronze time rewind thing and then glide, teleport, and glide again. Full Vigor in no time.
Druids are going to (and have already started) complaining that they can’t use their flight forms. Would it be unfair if Dracthyr could use theirs without a cooldown? I don’t think so.
• I agree that I would like to be able to fly, but if we don’t get that I’ve been having fun with Soar. It’s fun being able to cross a couple of zones and beat someone on a fast flying mount while doing it.
• Definitely wish there were better mail transmog pieces. Never played a mail class before other than dabbling on my Shaman once in a blue moon. Mail armor sets are probably the worst armor type in the game, imo.
• Dracthyr colors match up with how the new dragons on Dragon Isles are, not necessarily the old school dragons. They matched colors to the newer dragons of the xpac. The same flights as we’re used to, just updated colors.
• I’d like mote barbershop armor options, would be nice. The color options are fine imo as it matches to the Dracthyr skin colors currently. Though I won’t say no if they added more in.
• 100% agree, we need to be able to play as almost any race in our Visage. I was hoping to at least be able to choose between a Human or BE type model, not just be lumped into a default BE model. I’d LOVE to have my visage be a Dwarf or something. I honestly think they will add that in the future, but they just didn’t have enough time with a tight release schedule to add it all in now. Either that or they always planned to add it later and not immediately.
Dragon riding a dragon just reminds me of those ridiculous animal memes: goat riding a turtle, dog riding a horse, cat riding a turtle… dragonid riding a dragon. It looks particularly stupid with dracthyr since they have wings, and it kind of ruins class fantasy.
But in the end they could care less about the Dracthyr. If they did they’d be testing and trying these suggestions and responding. Instead they ignore us all as if it we’ll all just give up once we realize they aren’t listening. (which is true.)
