Some form of Sharding

Amen, plus heart to you!

edit: Man o- day- times and attitudes have definitely changed. Soon it is on to the next crusade- improved character models!

NO SHARDING PERIOD or Classic will fail.

Well it doesn’t run better, bfa has had problems despite having sharding with massive lag in parts of the game that weren’t their in legion.

Well sharding will probably make exploration leveling for the first 5 levels pointless :(.

I “advocate” for none at all, even though it’s clear Blizzard is going to do it their way and use it minimally in the (currently undefined) starting zones. If that’s all the sharding they ever do, no biggie, I just won’t be playing during that time, but I will be playing potentially for years. Missing Day 1, Month 1, Quarter 1, doesn’t matter to me if it means missing sharding.

A month or more in, when the evidence is clear that sharding was indeed temporary and it is not being pulled out as a solution for other situations, that’s when I’ll start playing. Otherwise, oh well. :woman_shrugging: Blizzard lost my loyalty a long time ago, and breaking trust one last time would be it.

Permanent world-wide sharding doesn’t appeal to me and I don’t believe it will be necessary long-term. I do see the benefit in the early days of Classic when the realms are slammed. Long-term, the population will more than likely stabilize and spread out into the world more, so sharding won’t be as necessary.

Permanent sharding = convenience
No sharding = community

And it didn’t need fixing. In retrospect, sharding just showed those who did experience the non-sharding Classic that convenience came at a heavy cost.

Naturally, those who never experienced Classic, who were not there at launch, that never leveled a character in normal progression 1-60 prior to sharding, may not fully appreciate the cause and affect sharding has on a community.

If Blizzard implements some form of sharding, anything beyond the starting zone will guarantee they will not be getting my subscription.

You know what they didn’t say?

Did you here what wasn’t said when the question came up?

They didn’t say: “Sharding? Oh HELL NO! We’re not stupid. We’d never do that.”

Like, if you asked: “Hey, is there going to be a Jim Raynor boss in Classic?” Pretty sure you’d get a definitive answer on that one.

But that’s that not what we go here. We got weasel words.

Weasel words go both ways. Glass half, glass half empty, and “WTH am I drinking here anyway!!?”

Sharding is CHEAP to do for them. It doesn’t cost them anything to turn it on, or turn it off. The system will be CHEAPER TO RUN with Sharding than without. The support center will get LESS CALLS with Sharding than without.

Sharding solves a LOT of potential issues for them, is cheap and “harmless” to deploy, and can be undone with a mouse click.

So, yea, no, they didn’t “Sharding!? You bet! We love sharding! Every toon gets their own private 1-player game!”. But they also didn’t say “Hell no!”

I’m of the opinion that Sharding will happen, in some form. They will ask forgiveness instead of permission. They will never pledge “never again” when they get caught, and anything that makes their lives easier in terms of labor or costs will be front and center on the table.

Real nice troll attempt sspecially since the person I replied to doesnt read it as written and only utilizes a few word and partial sentences to attempt to justify their position

This is why I’m waiting a month after release to commit to Classic. After the BFA Beta fiasco, I’m at the “Fool me twice” point that I don’t trust Blizz and I’m keeping a wait-see attitude.

One thing I’m noticing on the forum is that Blizz is sitting back watching us tear ourselves to pieces. When things start to quiet down, they toss a morsel into the water and watch the feeding frenzy. They can then use this to justify why they are not being more vocal with updates.

I’m against sharding, not for the fact that I want a pure experience, but for the fact that IF sharding is allowed then anything and everything is fair game. They will use sharding as an excuse for “needed quality of life nerfs and changes”.

If they allow sharding then I would like to have my Turbo-Charged Flying Machine. I promise to use it only in the starting zones…and areas of heavy congestion. :innocent:

This is what an mmorpg should be:

This is the type of thing that can ONLY happen in an mmo. This is what mmos should be promoting. It sets the genre apart. Sadly, in Current WoW the game would crash and the person who organized it would probably get banned.

This is exactly many of us having been saying. It is exactly why many of us are opposed to sharding in any form.

no ones accepting it. at all, we don’t want it. if we have to deal with it we all have our limits.

most these posts are people giving the maximum they will put up with it, most don’t seem accepting.

I cant imagine they would implement sharding past the first month or so. Like they said, it’s only to relieve the stress of the initial launch.

Of $(*%ing course you do.

How many threads are you going to make about this?

Thanks for all of the input peeps. Looks like sharding, at least temporarily, is an accepted idea. I guess we will see how long it lasts.
