I remember back in wrath there was a handy macro that would let you summon a ground mount if you couldn’t fly, and a flying mount otherwise. I’ve played around with it and can’t really get it to work anymore, so I actually use two buttons, one bound one not, for my favorite flyer and non flyer, then I switch out the bound button depending on what I’m doing (whether I’m in BfA vs anywhere else pretty much). Crude but effective.
I cannot summon the Ebon Gryphon. I’m in Argus right now and I can’t. So you’re either lying or our games don’t function the same lol.
Now you are just be obtuse.
Or, it’s random.
Listen, I don’t care enough about you or this issue to lie about it. The spell says “usable”, flying mounts are usable in non-flying zones, and I’ve taken screen shots of flying mounts coming up for me in non-flying zones when they’re favorited. Other than that, I don’t know what else to tell you.
I’m fairly sure “usable” just means it won’t summon a underwater only mount on land. Flying mounts can walk, thus they are usable.
I am using 6 flying mounts vs 1 horse right now I cannot summon a single flying mount.

Well, you’re either lying or our games don’t work the same, right?
…
No, I don’t think you’re lying. That would be a pretty dumb response on my part. I also don’t think our games work differently, which would be an equally dumb response on my part. But like I said, I don’t know what else to tell you. That’s how it works for me. shrug
I don’t think you lied neither. My bad.
The system is just not consistent. Some flying mounts get summoned, some don’t for whatever reason.
I wonder if you have an add-on that is affecting your mount selections, I know one or two exist.
I have the grand Expedition Yak and several ground mounts set as favorites. I get that darn Yak summoned all the time in places I could fly in. It’s completely random what mounts you get, like the button says. Any useable mount can be summoned.
I’ll give you that. I’ll also agree that it would be SUPER cool if it was consistently aware of zone conditions and allowances. I once had a macro which selected between two mounts based on zone conditions and allowances.
Ah! Found it:
#showtooltip
/cast [nomod,noflyable] Deathtusk Felboar
/cast [nomod,flyable] Corrupted Dreadwing
Last I tried it, it was functional before the pre-patch. That was on my warlock, one of my alts.
Edit: Hah! Just tried it in both Legion Dalaran and on Argus, it worked as expected. So maybe try messing around with that macro, see if you can make it work the way you want?
Nope I don’t. However, I only have 3 mounts as favorite most of the time.
My flying mount is the AOTC BFA purple drake
My ground mount is the Junkheap Drifter
Water mount is the Brinedeep fish
I’ve never had my drake summoned in Argus or Draenor (before I could fly). The water mounts would only be summoned underwater 100% of the time.
So the system was pretty consistent so far until I notice that many mounts don’t work the same.
i use a macro that’s supposed to do this very same thing, but it has the same issues. no clue why, but its very annoying. a certain part in atal’dazar, in the pit, can’t decide what’s allowed whereas legion zones are entirely ground only despite pathfinder for the entire expansion being optional.
As someone with a quite hefty mount collection, he’s right.
