Some basic SOD thoughts so far

-Runes are a fun addition when they offer new ways to play a class, like melee hunter, shockadin being viable. In fact, I wish there were priest runes that made holy damage specs viable. I love the idea that you can be spec into holy and deal damage (maybe at the cost of healing)… Runes are not so fun when they offer massive player power. We’re only level 40 and players are already cranking out crazy damage numbers. This has an adverse effect on the entire game as a whole, especially pvp. This requires additional “fixing” e.g., higher hp mobs/stam pvp buff

-I wish there was more to “discover” in SOD rather than the next rune. I was hoping for hidden chests in the world that might be better than normal ones, 1-2 special rare spawns per zone, hidden paths/new caves in zones. A ton of small discoveries are better than a few big ones.

-Professions having recipes changed or items altered to be more attractive is fantastic. The main goal of this should be to not only have more good items to craft, but (most important) diversify the value of crafting materials. E.g, at level 60, Arcane Crystals are absurdly overrepresented when it comes to useful crafting items. I’m hoping that some of that value gets moved out/away from Arcane Crystals and moved into stuff like Huge Emerald, Large Opal, Blue Sapphire, etc. Same goes for Herbalism.

-I feel like the leveling raids have been (mostly) a massive success. My only concern is power creep in terms of mechanics. I hope by the time we reach 60, some of the new raids won’t have retail-style mechanics. The key is to always keep raiding mechanics in classic simple. In the past, this was done by making easy mechanics be extremely punishing or have incredibly tight windows to complete. Classic characters do not have the same tools at their disposal as retail characters, where everyone can fly around the map at 200 MPH.

-Ashenvale event was mostly a miss in terms of design (it got changed a dozen times) and I wish we could still gain WSG rep through the event outside of the once-a-week 1,000 rep item turn in… Perhaps you gain 50% of normal rep during the event once you’re revered? Blood Moon I feel like is a great success that is utterly being overshadowed by the sometimes unplayable layering and lag issues. There was one weekend where I could not play with friends at all during the event That’s an awful feeling. Aside from the hardware issues, great event. But in general, pvp is way too bursty, mostly because people have big damage power creep via runes, and the survivability has not caught up to the damage being outputted. I wish runes would focus more on enabling builds rather than giving you some absurd damage ability (SW death, chaos bolt)
