I made a literal thread earlier BEFORE SOM released and people laughing and downvoting me and look at it now. on literal life support. They need new content and faster leveling and class balancing. Literally all servers but one is dead should be proof enough for all the “no new content” andys.
Do one of those surveys for community on what they want. basically the same thing for the next 20 years or new stuff.
I will bet $100 most will say they want new.
But blizzard can make 1 no changes/few changes for the old dad wow boomers to play on since barely any want it but them
Blizzard refuses to allot more employees to Classic/SoM. Most we are going to get are number tweaks.
I would absolutely be shocked if new content was put out for a Season. But this also opens the question: Will there be a Season of _______ for TBCC? Where will it end? Will they just keep “Seasons” to Vanilla?
But yes, I second giving us another round of Fresh CE for the dad gamers/nochanges crowd/private server players <3
If they aren’t doing new content they need to make ONE (or one per country) realm or layer everyone together. No name changes just a little extra ID or something
I don’t know about the others but the only reasons I’m not playing SoM is that I still feels like Classic Vanilla was yesterday. I’m not ready to play Vanilla again whatever there’s changes or not and I’m still focusing on TBC and the incoming Wrath Classic as well.
SOM is simply too early to me, it’s at the bottom of my priority list. I’ll MAYBE play after Wrath Classic (but I’ll STILL need a break after the Classic trilogy). Too soon…too soon.
Agree with the OP. The “no changes” thing has already been played out and it’s time for some tweaks since it’s seasonal and can vary from season to season as necessary. They’ve done it with season in other games so I’m someone optimistic they will do it with WoW.
They increased leveling experience to the point where it made a difference, but didn’t ruin the integrity of leveling in Classic.
They added QOL changes with adding additional Black Lotus, chance of Elemental fires/earth from mining.
They allowed tier 0.5 on release which is a HUGE difference in gearing characters.
The new raid mechanics are FUN. BWL is the most fun I’ve had raiding in a while.
They removed World Buffs which was what a lot of people wanted. I personally liked the WB meta, but this is a SIGNIFICANT change…
More recently they added catch up mechanics with even MORE increased XP in leveling an additional loot drops in raids.
Honestly, it sounds like you just don’t like classic and shouldn’t play it. You want retail classic and that’s just not going to happen. The one mistake blizzard made was the amount of servers on release, but the reality is SOM is INCREDIBLY niche. It’s not meant to the be front runner version of WOW.
Or, God forbid, people are playing different games. People could have also gotten burnt out because of the accelerated phase release. People also probably didn’t like the raid changes.
There are many factors, imo, that it could be. And I’m betting that it has something to do with the player base just not knowing what they want.
I think the devs are doing a remarkable job with SOM, definitely a /flex. They figured out how to make questing rewarding again, running dungeons worthwhile again, how to remove boosting, how to address lack of reagents, and how to make raids the challenge that they were back when classic was released (even if most of the challenge back then was everyone was so bad at playing the game). They even addressed gold buyers/sellers it seems. Oh, and they added an upgraded LookingForGroup tool that still ensures some opportunity for a bit of open world pvp, and they addressed the world buff raiding problem.
I would have liked some class tweaks. It would have been fun, but the devs said they weren’t going to do this. But there were many other changes that made SOM an improvement over classic.
Private servers ran basic Vanilla client for 15 years and players have ALWAYS came back.
SoM will fail, Era will stay around. Blizzard will not be able to retain SoM players with their minor changes and the changes will never be enough. The players left behind will be the ones that enjoy Classic for what it is.
Let’s be honest here. Modern players don’t even want to play CE. They don’t enjoy grinding, raid mechanics, gameplay style, or farming of CE. They want to change it and tweak it to the path of least resistance. Look at OP. They want FASTER leveling when the XP rate has been turned up to 100%. You’ve seen the threads where posters want LFD and teleportation to the dungeon, no consumable farming, instant 60 servers, etc…
These “fun” servers have their one off cycle but players always flock to fresh Vanilla. CE doesn’t need a massive population anyway. Less than 10k players on both sides total would fill a realm nicely without needing layers.
40% isn’t a lot and you get a ton if not most xp from MOBS… which there is NO xp boost from.
QOL is NOT NEW content. They just went in the code and changed numbers. literally 0 effort.
Bosses are the same bosses just different numbers that make them harder. literally all.
copium from wow boomers here is sad. like 6 servers all but 1 dead . “SOM is doing great!”
Unless Blizzard somehow is adding new content between harassment lawsuits and being sold to Microsoft, the most a Classic “Season” is going to get is number changes.
FWIW, the XP has been turned up to 100%
Cutting their losses would be ideal for “Seasons”. Are we going to have TBCC Seasons? WotLKC Seasons? Where will it end? How much more can they milk from Classic without turning it into retail?
oh you are rightt hey did. so one step in the right direction? Now just need to add new things.
should look at turtle wow. added new areas(where hyjal was), a new race and world bosses
