[Solved] WoW Unresponsive Upon Launch / Won't Connect

Hey there,

I could use some advice. As of today, whenever I try to launch WoW, it immediately freezes and stops responding. The screen will load, but any attempt to interact with the game instantly causes it to freeze, and not even a cinematic will proceed after clearing WTF/Cache. Otherwise just stays on Connecting forever.

What I have tried:

  • Ensuring drivers are up to date
  • Ensuring Windows 11 is up to date (also tried uninstalling/reinstalling recent Windows updates, testing before reinstalling and after)
  • Forcing DirectX11 (-d3d11)
  • Deleting Interface, WTF, and Cache folders
  • Double-checking for updates in Battle.net launcher
  • Running the repair tool
  • Not interacting with the game; let it sit (20-30 mins to no avail)
  • Uninstalling / Reinstalling WoW
  • Launching WoW.exe directly from the folder.
  • Disable firewall / AV
  • Power cycling router (wife is able to connect from her PC without issue on the same connection)
  • Power cycling PC

At this point I’m at a complete loss. This has not been an issue until now; it worked fine last night and then didn’t today. Nothing else on the PC has any issues; it’s just WoW.

PC Specs:

Windows 11 Home 64-bit
128GB DDR5
1TB SSD (553GB free)
AMD Radeon RX 7600
AMD Ryzen 5 7600 6-Core Processor
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
BIOS: 2.02 (type: UEFI)

EDIT: As an additional update, it will now (sometimes) get to the character selection screen, which can be interacted with. However, when entering world, it will stay at 80%ish on the loading screen for literally hours and never loads.

The community is often willing to look over a diagnostic report to see if any glaring issues can be spotted. Can you add a DxDiag here?

Click here to show/hide DxDiag report instructions
  1. Press Windows Key + R, then type DxDiag and press Enter.
  2. In the DxDiag window, click Save All Information.
  3. Name the file dxdiag and click Save.

After you have the report:

Note: If you have trouble posting the URL, highlight the link and click </> on the post editor toolbar.

Please note that there is no guarantee what’s causing your issue will be apparent from a DxDiag and you may need to do more investigating on your own.

Sure! DxDiag:

Your AMD Radeon RX 7600 isn’t showing that it’s connected to a monitor. Is the cable plugged into the wrong port (the motherboard)? The iGPU is showing that a monitor is present.

If everything is plugged in correctly, try using Display Driver Uninstaller for the AMD stuff and updating to the most recent driver (you currently have one from November).

You could also investigate the Razer stuff blocking the game, which was a problem for over 6 years.

You are my savior, thank you so much! <333
I must have mindlessly plugged the cable into the wrong HDMI port.
