Update: I understand now, I wasn’t thinking clearly about everything before I made this post. Please ignore.
Perhaps I’m not understanding how it works, but that nerf that went out that makes the Barbed Shot be at 100% effectiveness instead of 200% doesn’t make sense to me.
As far as I know this special Barbed Shot doesn’t stack with your regular ones. It doesn’t hit a random target other than your current target. So basically it’s just a regular Barbed Shot, right?
Well I never have an issue maintaining 3 stacks of Frenzy. I always have Barbed Shot ready to go when I need it to. So what’s the point of firing off a random normal Barbed Shot? At least the 200% did more damage. This just feels like a wasted set piece. All it does is refresh the duration of an ability that has a near 100% uptime already (barring fight mechanics). So the nerf doesn’t make sense, and it feels as if it was done by someone who doesn’t play the spec at all.
I could understand a drop to 150% or 125%, but at 100% effectiveness you’re just firing off a regular Barbed Shot at completely random times that doesn’t change literally anything.
Unless I’m not reading the set bonus correct and if so, please make it make sense.
You have to factor in each Barbed Shot cast reduces the CD on Bestial Wrath, gives us better uptime on it which includes Piercing Fangs and Lead from the Front
In my ignorance, I forgot to consider the other things that synergize with Barbed Shot. I was only thinking of the DoT, Frenzy, and Thrill of the Hunt. I forgot about all the other things than can happen too. This makes sense now.
The other main issue with that is we used Barbed Shot so often (and proc outside of BW was random) that you quickly overwrote 200% damage with regular 100%.
That free barbed shot gives more chance to put up your serpent stings (off GCD) for bear to come in and rip peoples heads off with [Envenomed Fangs], its fine. This 2 piece ALSO gives frenzy uptime allowing you to spec out of [Barbed Scales] into [Serpentine Rhythm] which has amazing snergy with boar proc.
