[Solved!] Temporary Solution to 9.1.5 Freeze and Crash on Mac

Hi All,

After playing 50 Comp Stomps and freezing and crashing at least 30 times last night, today I found a temporary solution to prevent the freeze. The freeze and crash are usually caused by FPS on Monterey and Big Sur.

Go to System → Advanced, to the top right side there is Max Foreground FPS, set it to 50, before the change my default was 100 now I am running at 50 FPS, I never had a single crash and I have played 20 Comp Stomps today without any issue.

If the freeze and crash still exist, please let us know.

UPDATE: Playing 23rd game now with a big 15v15 fight at stable, no lag and freeze.

Nope.
Even tried lower fps cap. Same issue.

Big Sur.
27" Intel i5 Retina

Really? I just did a test that I changed back to 100 FPS and the freeze and crash all came back, then I change back to 50 and it is all good. Now I am confused. :expressionless:

I dropped it now to 45 fps cap. Going to test in raid now.
This framerate is… ugh.

It’s usually capped to 60fps since my iMac display is 60Hz so can’t see above 60fps anyways.

Unfortunately, I don’t think this can be labeled as [Solved], although its awesome it’s worked for you.

It hasn’t worked for me long term, but I did run through Torgast a few times and there were some results worth noting. sorry to be a tease, but I am going to point folks to Another thread that is getting some small momentum going.

I did 4 or 5 runs through Torgast, with my foreground frame rate at 50, as suggested in this thread. I absolutely did see a difference, but I continued to crash, but only when I got to the 4th floor! I’d get lag spikes and beach balls on the floors below, but once I hit the 4th floor, on two different characters, the game would crash 1-3 fights before the boss or on the last boss of that floor. every time.

EDIT: Just crashed on KT

Capped at 45.
Only stuttering sometimes, but no crashes yet in HSoD

Hi All,

Here is my finding on my MacBook Pro 2015 Retina and two Mac Mini (2014 and 2018) that all run on different Mac OS. Combined I have played between 45 to 60 Comp Stomps last night, today and tonight.

MacBook Pro 2015 Retina
Mac OS: Monterey
FPS: 100 initial setting
Addons: WeizPVP (downloaded latest version last night), Plater (downloaded latest version last night) and Capping enabled.
Result: Instant crash when I logged on WoW, crashed 2 seconds when seeing the character is in Oribos. Logged in again, crashed again, then I change FPS from 100 to 50, no issue at all, I played about 20 games on this computer today.

Mac Mini 2014
OS: Catalina
FPS: 100
Addons: WeizPVP (downloaded latest version last night), Plater (downloaded latest version last night) and Capping enabled.
Result: No freeze and crash, ran normally last night, even in big pvp fights. This is last night.

Mac Mini 2018
OS: Big Sur
FPS: 100
Addons: WeizPVP (downloaded latest version last night), Plater (downloaded latest version last night) and Capping enabled.
Result: No freeze and crash, runs normally as of now that I am currently playing Paladin. No freezes and crashes in big pvp fight. This is tonight.

Could it be related to the retina screens?

If I were to make an educated guess, I would say it is the graphics card issue caused by 9.1.5 or 9.1.5 simply does not work well with Monterey. After updating to 9.1.5, on my MacBook Pro 2015 Retina, the pixel density has surely upgraded despite my System->Graphics setting is all set to 1 of 10, the lowest setting.

I’m still running big sur on my mbp.

Have you encountered crash? On my end I am also running Mac Mini 2018 on Big Sur, no issues in the past 3 hours, constant pvping.

I never had the game crash yesterday. Just horrid FPS. Going to log in shortly and see how it’s running.

I’ll say it’s running much better tonight - oribos frame rate is still 20-30 but i’m seeing 50-60 out in the open world. Not sure I changed anything besides whatever update they did today. My mac seems to be sluggish outside of wow while the game is running - but it’s at least playable right now.

Same here. I’ve tried all the recommended “fixes” and no real luck. Running at lower frame rate and at less than the recommended “Advanced” display settings helps, but does not resolve the issue.

Not [Solved]

Ok s this sounds like a sad fix, and it , ok it isnt one, but this sometimes works for me & my machine , when I get the freeze up, Rainbow wheel, yet , I still hear game sounds, and all my friends on discord, and my friends in my group dont see me “looking like im bugging out” or acting like my toon is traditionally crashed or offline. I KEEP USING MY ACTIONS. and somehow, more often than not, the game recovers.
Why?, what is the trick?
I think Macs, well my 2019 Desktop 3.6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 Radeon Pro Vega 48 8 GB Built-in Retina 27" 5120 × 2880 Display mac, specifically, needs to know I am still at the controls.
And when it does know this, it works through what used to knock me out of the game.
So in really lousy back alley translation, if it knows a human is still at the controls, then it knows not to disconnect. Or , rather, active input of user is equivalent to the Mac saying, “ok, this is not some weird foreign assault on my processors, and my human is aware and operating me. Thus I will keep the party going

Therefore, when I ASWD, mouse, mouse , control click, spacebar, etc, during a little freeze, I tend to not get disconnected as much as when I just stop all actions, and do what I used to do, and say to my party in discord, “well I’m getting the freezy Rainbow Wheel’o Death” , sit back, take no action, and wait for a total drop of the game, for a restart of the computer, and my Bnet, which might be longer than my group (or I) would rather it be.

So, don’t punch your keyboards too hard, but do know this happened a few times to me yesterday, and I was able to power through it with this method and stay on and keep the game rolling. good luck to you all!

Ey guys!

Im on Catalina and also has FPS big drops and make it almost unplayable when I go to Shadowlands Zones. I thought it could be solved updating to Big Sur… so the problem is in every Mac with Big Sur?

I’m on an iMac core i5, 24gb ram, 4gb video
