Soloing Delves as Prot- have a couple questions

I’ll get straight to the point:

  1. Brann, heals or DPS?
  2. Battle stance, or Defensive Stance?
  3. Mountain Thane, or Colossus?
  4. Thunderous Roar, or Champion’s Spear?

These days I’m mostly a solo player. Haven’t done a normal+ raid since Legion and don’t really care to. I absolutely love that delves finally give me a chance to play Prot Warrior in a solo-player fashion, and want to hear what works for everyone else. What works best for you when solo playing as Prot in delves? And on that note, is Defensive Stance only really necessary for raiding? Am I good to use Battle Stance 24/7 as a solo prot player?

Mountain Thane seems to really synergize with a lot of the Warrior + Prot talents that further empower Thunder Clap/Blast, but I’m curious if Colossus can compete in a different way.

thane is better than Colossus imo, i use brann in dps 9/10 situations in delves. only higher magic dmg boss do i use heal brann. champion spear does more dmg and you can use it to save yourself from hordes of melee. second wind is you’re friend as prot in delves specially if you are near death you can cc the enemy and just run away to heal while they slowly chase you. battle stance doesn’t really do much beside give little bit of crit and reduce slows which is way worse than def stance that give you flat dmg taken reduce.

I just started running delves with mine. but I have gotten down 2 tier 8 delves and mine is only ilvl 567 with brann at lvl 17. I went with brann as heals, I kept defensive stance on, Mountain Thane and champions spear. I was able to stop Zekvir the one time he popped up in my delve and as of so far have had very minimal trouble. I am guessing there are a few bosses or mobs in delves that serve as a DPS check and they will be the problem. Brann still dies (goes unconcious) a lot but for the most part taht hasnt hurt anything

You won’t really die, except from boredom of how long it takes to kill stuff. Brann is just too RNG. Sometimes he does big dam, other times he picks his nose. lol

  1. Dps, though the suggestion of heals for heavy magic damage is valid.
  2. No point for battle stance, it’s only a little crit bonus.
  3. Thane, hands down.
  4. Roar is great if you’re pulling tons of mobs, Spear is insane rage gen though.
Thane really does work extremely well with Prot. Colossus can be more dps, but you lose some of the tanky factor for it.

1.- dps
2.- both are good, you need to switch stances for better performance.
3,. thane
4.- Spear

So, as a prot I did every delve (up to 11) with that config.
the burst part was like…:

  • Charge/shield charge
  • Demo shout
  • Avatar
  • spear
  • thunder claps
  • everything else

i always do defense stance , that 3% crit worths nothing . I have bran as a healer , either way he does damage too. also I go as mountain thane since I use the same build for m plus

I keep brann as DPS when doing Delves.
Defensive Stance.
Mountain Thane is easier, simpler, and about the same overall.
Thunderous Roar, Champ Spear is a dead talent.

I have completed all delves up to tier 11 as well as solo Zekvir on ?? Difficulty.

Dps you have sustain so go with more damage.

Always D stance it’s too good and now we got improved D stance with fight through the flames which you need in Delves against all the casters and magic damage.

Mountain thane for Aoe, Rage and healing. You get 5% more stam, Impending vicorty for the mini-last stand is great.

I don’t use either but probably thunderous roar. I took more talents to boost stam, haste, dmg.

so I gave both a try in a t8 delve

Thunderous Roar definitely helped speed up the clears faster, but man champion’s spear kinda underrated. absolute lifesaver when you wanna LoS and let second wind heal you a bit and keep a ground stunned and trapped. Also combos extremely well with the magnetic mech perk that you can get occasionally.

It’s a good bit of variety where you can really just pick one or the other based off the delve/type of mobs you’re facing. champions spear definitely helped me against casters

  • I run Brann as Heals, they nerfed his DPS pretty hard. His Execute is a real time saver though.
  • I just stay in Defensive. Battle stance is what… 3% crit? Meh. I’m not hurtin’ for damage that much.
  • Mountain Thane
  • Thunderous Roar.

I’ve been pretty successful in doing T8s. Not bothering with 9+

Pretty easy to keep 70-80% uptime on Shield Block/Ignore Pain and still put out decent damage. I full send demo shout/avatar whenever they’re up. They’re up a LOT. I run the Avatar talent that lowers Thunderclap’s CD in Delves for some more damage output. Could run the Shield Wall one if you’re getting rocked.

No reason you can’t run Battle if you really want to. I don’t really notice much extra damage when I run it.

Self healing can suck a bit if you let too many spells get through / certain packs in a couple delves. Spell Reflect is your friend. Stops being nerfed makes stuns less good, but they can still save your bacon.

Honestly I just focus on preventing as much damage as possible. Still pretty frequent to crack off 1.5 million damage shield slams/executes/thunder claps when the stars line up.

I think a lot of people fall into this trap where they just wanna spam Revenge and they end up doing mid damage and getting blasted. Shield Block + Shield Slam + Thunder Clap + Ignore Pain are your friend. Building and Spending your rage as quickly as possible to lower the CD on Avatar is the name of the game – and nothing spends rage as fast as Ignore Pain.
