Anytime people from other regions are put in, half the people in the game experience insane world MS to the point the match is essentially unplayable. I’ve been spending a lot of time in solo shuffle on alts and such after they get a specific rating because it’s better honor farming (by a long shot) than doing random battlegrounds provided you win at least 3 rounds.
But when someone’s from another region, the MS just becomes horrific. And it’s world MS. Other people are also lagging and bouncing around all over the place with 1-2 people actually being able to function depending on where they’re also from.
And it’s not the people in the game’s fault either. I’m not saying separate people based on region or increase queue times or anything like that. But the reality is that there’s something which should be done.
There are two solutions I can think of, one requiring some contextual information, the other doesn’t.
We’ll start easy. The first solution is to open up solo shuffle to cross-faction, thereby doubling the pool of available players. This issue mainly happens in the mornings, and we see the same things with random battlegrounds. People like me who are up at 5 in the morning or so continue to run into these problematic situations where we’re suddenly at 200-500 MS because someone from another region has lead. Again, no one’s fault. But considering solo shuffle is meant to mimic the idea of solo queue for rated arena, rated arena is cross-faction, therefore opening it up to cross-faction as an exception to the queue content rule makes sense.
Now for the other solution. Back during Legion, we had a similar problem but with arena. Take my home server of Gorefiend, for example. If I queued for an arena, and someone had been from Ragnaros, or Azralon, or even Frostmourne (all realms in different regions), we’d suddenly run into massive issues where people wouldn’t be able to hit their target despite being on top of them and in their hitbox. This was addressed with a formal response basically saying they had figured out some kind of solution, and it should be better.
Obviously, solution two should be to apply this technology to solo shuffle. If solo shuffle is intended to be a game mode which will receive its own competitive bracket, it’s paramount the experience people have now with the ‘testing version of it’ is actually something they can interact with and not have world MS combat them and make the experience frustrating.
Because it is. It’s extremely frustrating randomly having a 3 second delay on everything you do because the instance leader is from another region.
Edit: Actually, as a side note, it appears the solution I mention involving Legion has also been undone somewhat. If you queue with someone from another region now, your world MS also goes up, thereby making morning arena queue sessions more difficult if one’s pugging.
