Solo-Queue explained

Thought this was a good video clearing up solo-queue misconceptions from Stoopzz:

TLDR summary:

  • Solo q does not mean 1v1.
  • Solo q would be a separate bracket so you wouldn’t play against premade teams.
  • It could be the lowest rewarding rated PvP bracket.
  • Certain classes would dominate more than others isn’t a good argument as that already exists elsewhere in the game.
  • Good players want solo queue too for many reasons. Some just want to be able to play the game when their friends aren’t online, others may want to try off meta specs others may just be tired of only seeing premade comps.
  • Off-meta comps can still synergize somewhat well.
  • Making your own group requires more downtime which is a problem.
  • Blizzard is looking to change the gearing to be more similar to WoD in 9.1 likely because the gear upgrades are too powerful which causes more boosters. Boosting will never go away except with solo queue.
  • Allowing players to play the game is the most important thing to Stoopzz. (I agree)
  • It can’t be known if solo queue would be more toxic that can’t be measured, though waiting an hour in LFG to get called bad and get removed can also be toxic.
  • The exclusion in WoW may be due to the fact that it has been out for a long time so people expect you to know a lot. Solo queue could help with this as you wouldn’t be dependent on your groups to accept you.
  • There are plenty of bad players that make games sloppy already saying solo queue would be more sloppy doesn’t hold any weight.
  • Tanking rating in other games isn’t as bad since you can just keep queueing. In WoW tanking rating feels worse as you don’t know when you can play again.
  • LFG is flawed. One clear problem is you can’t look up other groups while you have a group made. Two people may want to play with each other but if they both made a group or are looking for a group they can’t tell if the other exists.
  • It would be a nice feature to be able to play other things while waiting for the search tool.
  • Solo queue would not remove social aspects of the game. Whispering someone cr/xp, looking them up, etc. isn’t more social than just getting to play with them without having to go through that. A likely reason the game is less social than in early WoW is because there is many other ways to connect online now.
  • Quote from Mark Rosewater “don’t change your players to match your game change your game to match your players.”

Thanks for actually posting some of the content of the video instead of just linking the video.

I’d imagine there are enough people who don’t care who they group up with for this to be a fine addition.

Or put differently, if this pulled people out of the group finder section, the people who care about making a comp probably wouldn’t have grouped with these people anyways.

That is so weird. I just said that exact thing in a comment to another post, I had no idea someone more notable than me had already said it. So I guess the idea isn’t all that new :sunglasses:

I liked the video. But personally I won’t solo queue or pvp. I did plenty of that in League and meh about it

Smart decision, you’re not missing out that’s for sure. You’d probably have more uptime with a popular ride at Disney World than RBGs.
