Solo proffesions

In the new solo run, what would your professions be?

I will probably do a rogue and do mining/engineering or herb/alch. If i was mage or warlock I’m not sure since I usually like to go tailoring.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.

So I want to make a rogue and from other posts it seems most profs beside alchy and eng require items from other professions (even engineering goggles need some leather) and despite really wanting target dummies you can’t get thistle tea without herbing.

I’m leaning more towards Alchemy but I’m also planning to play Undead which is probably the most sub optimal race so whos knows what is best to do :stuck_out_tongue:

So here is what I am thinking. No trades and no auction house. Can you mail stuff? Maybe from an alt if same account? If that’s a no go then probably go Blacksmith (since I am going Paladin). After maxing out and making top gear then I switch to Enchanting/Tailoring for bags and top enchants? Or should I load up on skinning stuff and tailoring then switch to enchanting and inscription and then switch to blacksmith/mining? Maybe alchy/herb for endgame pots? What do you think?

what I read is no mail as well

you can get leather from fishing so if you really wanted to hunt that down it’s entirely doable by fishing in the salvage wreck areas. Of course, you could probably out level the helm with the same amount of effort.

This also applies to bolts of cloth

If the toon doesn’t have an innate healing ability, herbalism and alchemy are tops. If they do, then I’d pick one that allows them to make gear for themselves.

I was going rogue so was thinking this on top of the fact I can then make thistle tea as well.
If I was say going to go a hunter I’d probably go engineering still (even without the heals) just for the guns and ammo. Despite being a rogue I’m not sure if guns/ammo creation will be worth not having the heals, buffs and tea though target dummies and dyno would be great.

Imagine spending 20 hours fishing to then die next level :stuck_out_tongue: Yeah I thought about that but it would probably take longer to fish up than out gear or if so maybe try luck on STV fishing event :stuck_out_tongue:

What I’ve read it would be better to level mining/skinning, get what you need, vendor rest swap to mining/engineering. Anything much higher up you want, you’d have to get through fishing later on.

It brings up the point that maybe skinning just to vendor it to be able to afford a mount at 40 might be worth it :stuck_out_tongue:

If you want to do enchanting you will have to do Blacksmithing in order to get the upgrade rods from what I have read.

If I go feral it’ll be LW/skin, or warrior will be BS/mining. I enjoy fishing, so leather is no issue.

I get that herb/alch or eng might be optimal, but it seems odd to constrain yourself to optimal in a mode that’s all about challenging yourself. I like the idea.of living off the land and plugging gaps with quest rewards.

Thats a cool way to look at it.

In saying that, My “cool factor” is that I like the idea of making your own potions and herbing to make my tea while I go out doing rogue things. Also I’m undead (worst race in SSF) so Ill eat people and Ill need some potions for the upset stomach :stuck_out_tongue:

Personally while I like the idea behind making your own gear, I suspect Ill get really bored of it if I’m forced to fish.

Oh do your thing! I’m just bored of alch after doing it on almost every toon in vanilla.

What better time to finally craft gear to use than on SF?

It could have done it in a normal or hardcore run, nothing is ever stopping anyone.

I do get the appeal TBH but I think the crafting system was designed around trading otherwise why would they put so many cross trade items?
TBH I think it would be nice if they made some minor changes to some profession items (like enchanters being able to make their own rods) but again each to their own :stuck_out_tongue:
