Not meant as an insult, I am also a solo player. What about the game outside of group content keeps you still playing and enjoying the game?
I like collecting things
Eh I just like questing and gathering up rep and other goodies.
I mostly just play to fill out the collections tab. I also like having a lot of characters and assigning themes and color schemes to them via tmogs, mounts, and pets. Basically I’m just here for the aesthetics.
Story, questing and loot I like collecting stuff and getting more powerful mostly but story is also great
The reason solo players enjoy WoW is because they are solo players. The worst part of WoW is the people. The worst part of almost anything is the people.
Quests and story, collections, am able to play solo (ie get enough gear to not suck in the overworld)
That all being said tail end of BFA and start of SL so far I have been doing much more group content and am enjoying it.
This is true, this is why I stopped playing with people, too.
It has activities I enjoy. And by playing solo, I come and go as I please, play as I please, with no virtual schedules or obligations.
Plus, frankly, more and more I realize what annoys me most about this game is other players.
Not the nice ones, ofc. It’s a pleasure to interact with them, however briefly.
Partly it’s the investment… I’ve been playing this game for years and it’s a lot more understandable than, say, learning all the systems for Pillars of Eternity or something from scratch.
Partly it’s the class feel. There’s a lot of very unique and different feeling classes in this game, and playing as a Warrior versus a Druid or Warlock or whatever is different enough to be interesting, and also not brokenly unbalanced or anything.
Partly it’s just the volume of content. There’s always something to do, some old quest I never did or mount I never got or gear set which would look cool or something. Most of it is old enough that you don’t need a group to do it.
I do what I do, when I do, and how I do, at my own pace. No worries of slowing others down or trying to play catch up.
Will help if asked, but normally doing my own things looking at all the things that appeal to me.
I can get a couple hours entertainment running around doing whatever tasks before my day starts.
Feels like they are starting to try and push me out though unless I go back to doing group stuff which isn’t gonna happen.
I raid with a guild of people I play with/met in Classic and we’re 4/10 heroic, but mostly I play solo outside of raids. I’m actually leveling an old character from a once good server (now a ghost town/merged server). The thing with WoW is, you can play solo and still obtain very good ilvl gear. Basically anything outside of Mythic Raiding you can obtain via PvP or M+
I enjoy solo play because I can watch YouTube, relax and just play the game how I want to play it. People are toxic. This community has gone to trash. I will play classic if I want community.
New content. Zones and storylines mainly, but also the occasional dungeon or LFR, and NOT for the zip tied features/failures they throw in with each expansion. Especially when it’s simply ported/borrowed content from other games. That speaks volumes as to the creativity that drives the fantasy not being top shelf. And it has now become so blatantly obvious that the “features” introduced every expansion are merely used as gauges to see how far they can gate content and get away with it before players say “enough!”.
“Enough!” - Jan. 21st 2021
I like to collect things and I actually really like pet battles. It’s also probably a lot to do with I’ve been playing since close to when the game launched so a lot of it is habit.
it scratches my collectors itch
I got into MMOs mainly because I like exploring and old school original MMOs like Asheron’s Call, Anarchy Online, an Everquest all changed over time, some even monthly, adding new content and expanding upon their stories. WOW was/is a great world to explore but its gotten smaller and smaller despite paradoxically getting more and more content because each expansion basically puts a dust cover on all the old content and really encourages/demands you only play the “newest” content instead of going back and changing/building upon old content. so for each wow expansion i pretty much come back, do the new content till I exhaust the majority of it, then do some old content, then unsubscribe until more content is added. wow has had the slowest release of content i’ve ever seen for an MMO but its still fun to explore. my favorite feature of shadowlands so far has been torghast. i like the semi random nature of it but feel like it will get old in a few more weeks after we’ve run the same wings over and over unless they are drastically different each week and/or add more. i hope the endless mode is even more random and interesting. they remind me of the random dungeons from anarchy online which were some of my favorite content in any mmo. not knowing what was in teh next room, a boss? traps? some crazy npc with a quest? some phat loot in a chest? I would really love more random dungeons. mythics kind of give some randomness to the strength/power of the mobs in dungeons but imagine if their placements were changed, and every mythic had different rooms and differents route you had to take instead of learning the one optimal route and blitzing thru it 100 times. i love exploring and wow offers a great deal but it could offer a lot more.
I like to play on my own time. I AFK a lot. Died a few times just by chilling in the middle of no where lol!
I don’t wanna be on anyone elses time mostly.
I probably played this game 95% solo since I’ve been here.
With all the Mythic + stories I’m seeing, I’m not even gonna bother. The community endgame is so horrible, there’s actually an article about it a few days ago I saw for people just to be kind to each other.
(Can’t post links yet lol) It’s actually hilarious yet sad.
Edit: Look up - Please, be nice to other players — especially in LFG dungeons at the start of an expansion
Literally same, my goal is to have a character of each class with their own perfect transmog and mount to match.
i like to pvp (random bgs or arenas) collect and grind rep, and i really like Torghast.
I just feel like there are so many single-player RPGs out there if you truly hate people that much. WoW has solo content, but it is not and never will be a single-player game.
