Some of us don’t do well in groups. Anxiety and depression really affect my day to day play. I love playing WoW but I don’t want others to be reliant on me in Rated PvP, Mythics Dungeons and Raids.
But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to progress also in the game. I’ve pretty much hit the wall as far as any gearing goes with the content I can do mentally. I was very excited when I first heard about Torghast. I thought it was going to be like doing Rifts in Diablo III with a chance for epic loot for good runs. Sadly it has turned out to be the exact opposite, all the fun with zero reward.
I don’t understand why Blizzard chose this route. Many players like me cannot handle doing grouped content, but still love to play and don’t mind challenging solo content. Having absolutely no progression path for us is disheartening.
Blizzard please add a reward system for Torghast. As a solo player I really enjoy running through Torghast (I know that may make me an outlier, but it’s the truth.)
If the extroverts enjoy running raids, M+ dungs and Rated PvP great, I don’t want them affected at all. But please have a path forward for those of us that cannot enjoy that content.
I’ll push harder solo content all day long. That’s what Diablo III did with Rift Runs. Torghast is the perfect place to bring a similar content to WoW.
I would never want to see progression added to something as atrocious as Torghast, personally.
But they should incrementally add more ranks to Covenant gear, so that we can upgrade it further. If that is done, world quests rewards would go up to supplement the slots that are not covered by the Covenant set.
When I heard about islands and torghast I was excited… but was very let down by both… needless to say I will not be trusting Blizz and pre ordering another xpack or even buying them at all based on any new “casual” content they choose to add because it will most likely fail in the same areas islands and torghast has.
The reason why the game Is the way It Is right now Is because they listened to loud mouthed Streamers who struck notoriety by means of aggressive evils. Blizzards Dev team Including Ion must have resonated with this.
World quests aren’t a challenge though. While I don’t object to that also being a path, I want to rewarded for challenging content. I want to earn better gear through a challenging solo pathway. Torghast seems like an excellent venue for me at least.
+1. As someone who has suffered from anxiety for his entire life (I am 55), I can totally relate to what the original poster is saying. I have often thought that Blizzard may be in violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act by restricting certain content from people who do not want to “group up”.
There are plenty of challenge type things you can embrace solo.
I have done a dozen or so variations of leveling challenges for years, and now I am breaking into Torghast.
If you are looking for ways to stay engaged and challenge yourself, you can find them.
However, if you are purely talking about gaining gear, what would its purpose be?
All end game content requires a group.
So even if you got that gear, what would you do with it?
Instead, I might suggest you use this opportunity to overcome your anxiety.
It may be surprising to hear, but I too had similar issues with this years ago.
The game has been the best therapy possible for me.
It allows me to push myself exactly as much as I want and offers enough to keep me interested when I don’t feel comfortable any longer.
I won’t speak for you, but I will say you are playing an MMORPG.
The social elements are too big to ignore.
Find a way you can work around them and improve despite what you believe to be shortcommings, and you will feel even more rewarded than the average player might.
I agree that there is a “social element” to MMOs. With that being said, some of us are simply afraid to “group up” with others because of the fear of being harassed should we do something wrong in a group. Should we be denied content based on our fear?
I personally wouldn’t mind doing torghast if it gave more rewards than “X soul ash”. It’s actually not bad content, it’s just that it takes so long and the reward is so lame that most people view it as a waste of time once they get enough ash for their leggos of choice.
Finding a guild and doing group activities cured my social anxiety. I met and made good friends. It took me a year to feel comfortable to talk to people and play with them. I was not a very good player, but folks helped me willing to learn the basics.
I get you, OP. I suffer from anxiety, depression and schizoid personality disorder. I have to win 10 RBGs to unlock my favorite wereburr skin on my druid and the thought of it makes me very nervous. At least I can tell myself that when it’s done, I won’t have to do it again… Assuming the unlock doesn’t bug out for a second time.
You’re looking for a game like Baldur’s Gate (or a similar dungeon crawler) where you can control an entire party or your one character is so OP (like in Skyrim) you can literally solo everything.
Well first of all, yes, if you wish not to group up with others, then you should be denied proper access to group content.
This content CAN be done solo to some degree, but likely with no success.
Its not different than being upset that you can’t become a member of a Basketball program because you can’t play the sport alone.
Some activities have parameters.
Either way, the goal of the game is to socialize and overcome issues like this.
There is nothing to be scared of, and it took me a while to realize this.
So your path forward is to find a way to accomplish this yourself.
Whatever is most comfortable.
For me, it was finding people I WAS comfortable playing with, establish a baseline of confidence, then go higher with people I might not be comfortable with, knowing what is and isn’t reality about that situation.
So when those people do “harass” me, I know if they are right, or just being clowns.
