So...is there any reason why liches like using ice so much?

as the title says, liches are most of the time mages that got ressurected and then becamed liches.
But mages got 3 schools of magic: Ice, fire and arcane which the lich only uses ice, why though?

(Supposition): Something about the chill of the grave and the cold of death or what not, I imagine.

Theme. The Scourge is based out of Northrend, dead people are cold, and ice magic is spooky.

Alternatively, most of these liches are from Dalaran. Ye olde lore told us the Kirin Tor frowned upon fire magic and preferred the study of frost. Pretty sure that was retconned though since literally every Archmage with a name uses all three schools.

Well if I kill fresh bodies with fire, they kind of… burn up. With Ice magic at least it keeps the bodies, well on Ice, nice and fresh to be used for later undead raising.

According to Wowpedia, when Kil’jaeden trasformed the surviving death knights of the old horde into liches and bound then to the will of the lich king, Ner’zhul blessed then with mastery over the frozen cold of Northrend, thus given then their iconic frost magic.

Of course this are for the ones from the scourge, not sure about the independent ones.

Because of the aesthetic, honey

Being Undead means you’re pretty dry. Being dry around fire is a really bad idea.

Don’t tell Bolvar that though.

Because :fire: + :skull_and_crossbones: = even bigger :fire:

Because they’re too cool to use Fire or Arcane.
