I don’t usually don’t reach out on forums but I’m so desperate to find a solution to the problem I keep having and was hoping for some help.
Ever since the Midnight prepatch, my characters go into soft locks randomly. The best way I can describe it is my characters can move but they can’t interact with anyone or anything. I can’t use any abilities or aggro anything around me. This mostly happens in instances. I deleted all my addons and did a User Interface reset. This still didn’t fix the issue. I reinstalled the game and this morning it worked again for an hour before I got soft locked again and can’t play that character. This has happened to multiple characters. When my Demon Hunter hit level 70, I couldn’t get the War Within quest without my adventure guide. I ported to Silithus using the quest scroll from the first War Within quest but am now soft locked in Silithus. I don’t know if this is a bug Blizzard is going to fix Tuesday, but I’d love some suggestions if anyone has run into the same issue. Thanks for any help guys!
A soft lock is like a glitch that keeps you from doing certain things in the game. You can log on, you can move around, but you can’t interact with NPCs or press abilities. You essentially can’t progress in the game
Sounds like an internet issue of some kind. Sometimes a DC acts like that. You can move, maybe chat, but can’t actually do anything and on everyone else’s screen you’re likely running in place.
Cox Cable had some issues somewhat recently with the routing to Blizzard services. I haven’t had much trouble since the time I’m thinking of, but if you use them, you could try playing through a VPN or Cloudflare WARP to see if it resolves the issue.
Ideally you wouldn’t want to have to do that permanently but if it resolves the issue it could be an ISP problem.
I left addons out after reinstalling and scanned and repaired multiple times. Other players don’t move around either or I will see them for a short period before they randomly disappear. My game is on the same drive as my OS and I don’t have a Mac PC.
I used Proton VPN (free account) when I was having the issues with Cox.
I also tried Cloudflare WARP at someone else’s recommendation and it accomplished the same thing with less latency.
I’m not super optimistic it’s that, since there were multiple reports of the issue when Cox was having its trouble, but it doesn’t hurt to try if its persisting and nothing else is fixing it.
The War Within quests are a mess and completely bugged out. The recap they introduced has made a disaster out of the normal questing path. Most people can’t even get past where you’re at right now.
As for the issues with inability to do anything… I’d submit a ticket on that. You may have to submit two. Let them know you already did a full UI reset and reinstall.
That’s lag. Something on yiur end is lagging badly. Have you tried resetting your router and modem? Unplug them for a couple of minutes then power back on again. That’s the first step to troubleshooting.
That sounds like a network problem where your computer is losing its connection to the server, but in a way that the disconnect has not yet been immediately detected.
First thing I’d check when it happens is whether you can still access websites on the Internet. If you can’t, it’s something on your end. If you can, it may be something on the server end that’s overloaded (often there will be people compaining about lag just before it starts if there’s a server problem).
I don’t know how helpful this is, but my partner and I ran into an issue matching this issue twice last night while killing rares in Twilight Highlands. Both times right after killing Ray of Putrescence I think? We could move and use the chat and see each other’s messages, but everything else stopped working. I’m also not sure about it being an Internet thing since we live on literal opposite ends of the country with different ISPs but had this happen at the exact same time.
Anyway, it was fixed by closing the game and logging back in so take that as you will.
Anyway, this has happened to me a few times a month or so ago - acted like a server disconnect but could still use chat, and the same thing happened a few minutes after switching toons. After some messing around I just assumed it was something on blizzards end and logged off.
I don’t have a fix as everything seemed ok the next day.
What actually happens when you try to use an ability? Does it activate the GCD and que up the ability, or does it just act as if you are not pressing it?
This is on most characters, both remix and non-remix characters. I’m not sure how to do connectivity testing honestly, so I haven’t. Would do you mean by that?
Apparently Blizz doesn’t involve using WinMTR anymore to help figure out where along the lines you might be encountering packet loss.
But you could start with this
I’d do everything on there, including the advanced troubleshooting part at the bottom. I’d also suggest moving this to technical support forums if you still have issues after
