[SoD] Warlock’s Metamorphosis not Utilizing Weapon Skill

Problem:

While in Metamorphosis form the game does not respect the player’s current weapon skill; it seems to treat it as equivalent to player’s level.

Reproduction:

  • Start with metamorphosis disabled
  • Equip any weapon, or unequip for unarmed, lacking in skill
  • Attack current level PvE enemy (for my case a level 25)
  • Observe several misses and skill is observed to increase on misses
  • Enter Metamorphosis
  • Repeat attacking current level PvE enemy
  • Observe hits occurring consistently that would miss if not shapeshifted, in addition, weapon skill never increases

An interesting question brought about this, is whether the designers envisioned meta warlocks to utilize their autos as part of their kit. I think it is good design (despite the brutal glancing blow penalty caster receive sadly).

At first glance the question is, why would you want this fixed? Isn’t this QoL?

A caveat to this current behavior is no amount of +Weapon Skill (rare but exists) will have any impact while in metamorphosis, this is one of the few ways a caster could potentially reduce the average damage reduction from glancing blows. Meme specs aside, this is SoD and I’m curious to see what the devs might cook up.


Two additional data points that might be of interest:

  • The defense formula works correctly in meta and also levels up while getting hit; this is useful due to the +Defense items that exist or were added in SoD
  • Wanding also correctly uses weapon skill; the miss rate and skill increases reflect this
