SOD vs Classic

Hey folks,

I wanted to start a discussion about the differences between WoW Classic and the new SoD mode. My friend and I recently had a debate about this, and I thought it would be interesting to hear more perspectives from the community.

Where I Stand:

I personally prefer WoW Classic because of its simplicity and nostalgic feel. To me, it’s like a classic pepperoni pizza—simple, straightforward, and satisfying. With SoD, Blizzard took that pepperoni pizza and kept adding more and more toppings (new abilities, features, etc.), turning it into a supreme pizza. While I don’t dislike a pizza with lots of toppings, sometimes I’m just in the mood for that classic pepperoni experience. I told my friend that this analogy was emphasizing my view of SoD feeling bloated, and how it changed classic.

Why I Feel SoD Feels “Bloated”:

New Abilities and Runes:
While these add versatility and customization, they also make the game feel more complex and cluttered compared to the original.

Revamped Content:
Reworking classic dungeons into raids and adding new features can be fun, but it also changes the core experience that WoW Classic offers.

Item Scaling and Design:
One of the things I loved about WoW Classic was how items scaled and were designed. Items were iconic due to their appearance, unique effects, and the difficulty in obtaining them. Getting your first blue or purple item felt incredibly rewarding. However, in SoD, items have been revamped, particularly in raids like Blackfathom Deeps (BFD). A common criticism is that items are too powerful too early on. For example, a purple staff from the BFD raid boss is on par with level 60 weapons, yet it can be obtained from a level 25 instance. Even if mobs in the world scale, it still feels off to me.
