Being someone who never got to experience SoM I’m just curious how seasonal servers work? On the 30th will there be a separate tab like what we have for hardcore servers? Is there any way to tell which servers we’ll be able to choose from before hand? Did the SoM servers eventually get consolidated down into a few servers where it was 90/10 split faction wise? Did the offer transfers off of dead servers to new ones? Super excited to experience SoD on the 30th!

If the same as the first season the servers will be on a separate tab. Likely a few days in advance we’ll be able to see them but they’ll be offline. The first season gave the servers 8 days in advance but recently they’ve done 3.
In the first season they made way too many servers, and most of them ended up dead. At the end of the first season the servers were announced to be shut down and they gave free transfers off. Hope that helps

They did consolidate some of the SoM servers. For example, I started on Obsidian Edge server because it was a PVE server in my timezone (West) but that server ended up moving to Shadowstrike PVE server (East).
If you’re in the U.S. and they offer both East and West type servers, it seems like East will always have the higher populations and the West could end up being consolidated into the East one like what happened in SoM. And it was early on, I think within 3 months or so? I couldn’t keep playing past that point so I don’t know if more consolidation continued to happen. SoM also didn’t come out with great timing, we might see better numbers in SoD, especially due to the “classic+” nature of the content and where things are at in wrath right now.
It sounds like SoD might start with less servers and just use the layer system but unless I missed an official announcement by Blizzard (which could be the case) we won’t know for sure until they update us on the server launch list.

With layering why do we even need more than 1 pve/pvp server per region?
Just have 200 layers instead of 6-10

Originally there were I think two servers but on launch day blizzard suddenly added several more I suppose they panicked about not having enough or something.
