We have to maintain a finisher to have the buff to tank already, we have these shiny new cloak runes… they hit like wet noodles.
Please someone with half a brain rework this… we need something like a 200% additional threat boost and gating it behind raiding tiers is just a cruel joke. Fan of knives should be cheap if it hits for half a fart… and crimson tempest should have an opening damage hit similar to explosive trap in addition to the dot.
Something tells me if you’re going to unsub over a minor thing such as threat on one class of many then you’re likely just looking for a reason to do it.
I’m sure you’ll be missed … by someone … somewhere … somehow … maybe … possibly … not likely … but hey, one can hope.
Fan of knives which should be the equivalent of consecrate is currently worthless and forgotten about indicating that they want it to be a meme spec going forward
2set T1 definitely helps, but even without it single target I haven’t struggled much for threat and I’ve MT’d everything in the current phase. Abuse Poison Knife, UA and HAT.
I’m pretty sure we’re hands down the best single target threaters in the game.
quick edit/side note: I also tanked Gehennas’ 4 adds while my raid zug’d them down, as a rogue, with blunderbuss+shuriken+dunes deck.
I’m not sure I follow. Having to use blunderbuss and shuriken toss is bad design? Having to use abilities is bad design?
While I do agree it is silly how effortless it seems for the other tanks to generate their threat, and our rotation is very cumbersome and tedious compared to theirs, we still beat them. We also mitigate damage like crazy, and our damage is ludicrous.
I also prefer our more involved playstyle than anything our counterparts are doing.
Agreed. Without Alpha or Salv, our threat is awful. Single target is decent, but aoe is absolutely horrible. Cmon Blizz. Please give our threat a slight boost at least. Even just 5-10% would be huge.
But that would mean revealing my identity after I’ve remained anonymous for so long!

Tanked all of Sulfuron’s adds too, got a little sloppy but I got 'em. AoE is hard but we can do it, and single target we blast. I don’t think we’re intended to be as braindead when it comes to AoE as Paladins, we’re supposed to be single target kings.
If you cant keep threat as a rogue tank thats a you pro lem i have np holding aggro. A 5 cp crimson tempest slaps. And use expose armor sebacious etc and threat is fine. In classic some dps that pop off will pull aggro no mater what tank you have. Rogue tank is fine mabe just do better. Our aggro is just fine
Considering how much is immune to bleed, no it doesn’t slap. You probably must have poor DPS in your group as well if that bleed dot is holding threat. I used to stick to Blunderbuss, just picked up the 2pc from MC last night, and with alpha, had no issues holding larger undead packs.
The problem mostly is that we’re heavily reliant on alpha for threat generation against either good dps, or sperg dps that doesn’t let a tank get threat to begin with.
We’ll also see what happens when rogues give up the 2pc set bonus.
With sets being 2/4/6 bonuses you could comfortably wear 6pc T2 and retain 2pc T1 bonus. So potentially 0 loss going into next phase. Would be nice if it was made baseline however.
Things… aren’t immune to bleed though? Saber Slash dot is ticking on everything in MC? You aren’t reliant on Alpha or Salv, maybe on AoE but no shot single target.
Open PK → BD → SSl → SnD → it’s party time. Burn AR and BF off rip, there’s 0 reason to hold them, use your tea - there’s no shot someone is ahead of you on threat.
You can further minmax by applying Sebacious to an offhand weapon you don’t normally use, start the fight with it equipped, use a macro to cast PK and swap to your main offhand weapon - this will apply Improved Expose Armor as your first GCD on the boss, making your initial spike threat even better. Then you manually cast EA throughout the fight with your surge of CP from HAT and UA.
I’m sorry, where’s the cope? Everything I said is true. You’re the one struggling to deal with reality. And who is simping for the devs? I wrote an entire thread criticizing rogue tank in phase 1, I have my own handful of grievances with phase 4, and will happily be the first to criticize Blizzard in general.
Rogue is strong man. We’re a contender for top dps, as the tank with the least dtps and the best tps. The top tanks on Warcraftlogs are Rogues.
Let me ask you this: What do you think they should change? Increase our threat mod from JaFW a bit? Or do you want it to turn into retail where you get to slobber on your keyboard and just get threat for ‘being the tank’? What is your suggestion?
You think a retail 8 button rotation style to hold threat is what the general SOD player base wants just because you need to fuel your APM addiction. Go play a warrior
So no suggestions, and you’d prefer to slobber on the keyboard then. Gotcha.
It’s really not that complex man. You don’t have to use PK and do the offhand swap I suggested. But if people were struggling with threat, that’s a helpful option you can employ and it’s easy.
It doesn’t take an 8 skill rotation to tank lol, and imagine complaining that you have to press buttons to play the game. Yes dude, you have to do stuff. Here let me prove a point though:
Run at enemy, Saber Slash, Blade Dance, Blunderbuss, Slice and Dice. You pressed 4 buttons and you’re tanking up to 4 mobs. Add shuriken for groups or poison knife for single target for a 5th button (oh no! how will we manage!) and you’re cooking. What is the problem?
Do you just want to hold W and press FoK? Go to retail.
Lol no and if that’s the case for you you’re sandbagging, undergeared, or there’s a massive skill issue. I linked a log with a 90+ parsing ret paladin and threat wasn’t an issue even when I’m tanking 4 mobs and he’s zugging, doing as you described and more. In fact, he specifically prefers and insists that I tank because of my threat generation.
If you want effortless threat, go play retail. It’s right there for you. Rogues are totally fine.
