SOD PVP Changes - Mage POV

50% damage is just way too much considering how quickly mages go oom. If they are going to reduce damage by that much then they need to equally reduce mana costs by 50% as well or maybe even more in pvp

Excited for the reply, bro’s been in every thread flaming anyone with mana as a resource. I’d like to see the counter to cold hard numbers

They need to add a mana buff to the hp buff modifier. Its set at 40% hp also make it 40% mana. Let’s give a vanilla mage damage numbers as an example.

My frost mage easily hit for 1000 damage frostbolts. Average players had 4000-4500 hp. A none crit frostbolt took almost 1/4 someone’s health. Hard casts are suppose to chunk you. Hard casts shouldn’t be a lot lower than this damage to health ratio. It’s vanilla not retail.

Please stream or record gameplay.

Blizz team is incompetent to fix the runes so the damages are no longer crazy, so they used this stupid tactic to nerf all damages…

Sometimes, i feel it is too ez to do their job…

Because ‘dev team’ are so out of touch with their own game they’re just hard copying Retail.
All these buffoons needed to do was bring rune abilities in line with classic abilities, that’s it. No more no less.
And learn how to bloody do itemization.

I think Attention(obvious troll forum name) is just trying to bait. No one is actually that dumb. In Era you can shatter combo some one for 75% of their HP. Mages had the biggest burst of all caster DPS. Mages in SoD are the lowest pressure caster and have to be played as control healer. They aren’t fun at all outside of that niche that no Mage player expected to be their only role.

I am a multi rank 13 mage main parsing 99+ on classic2019 as well as rank 13 grinds with naxx geared mages on both horde and alliance. I can agree with you completely.
Mage resource management is the problem here. I don’t have enough mana to do an impact via damage, I oom so quickly, I am the squishiest class in the game, can’t defend myself.
Right now the best thing to do until they revert the change is to chrono pres actual dps classes + poly + cs + nova and spam 20g jungle durian food to regen what little mana you have available. It’s really unplayable as is right now. I can take a hunter who has viper stung me to about 30% health with a full mana bar and all cooldowns, playing like a r13 mage. If the hunter had a heal he would be even worse.

Reiterating everyone above, mage feels terrible in pvp atm. Low impact, constant pressure on mana. Really only good for CC and healing in a group setting.

This community is exactly why the game is dead. OP makes a decent argument and the community just flames him and pretends it’s not an issue. Sounds like the same crap people say when a guy gets mass reported for no reason. Toxic players make the game suck. You’re literally killing the game you pretend to enjoy.

Are you getting your information from your guildie here telling you this is balanced?

If you aren’t a knower this is arguably the best rogue in the world on your friend here.

I mean this is factually incorrect but not entirely for the reasons you’re stating.

Make damage in vanilla was very good, and it was easy to kill people - provided you were critting - which is why Frost/Elemental were so much better as a PvP spec.

A very common burst setup was literally just a Nova into Frostbolt > CoC > Fireblast > Blastwave. The first two would usually crit, the CoC could apply frostbite, and FB and BW would usually be enough to kill them.

Geared players had a bit more health, for sure, but after that it was your typical kite. Essentially, most mage damage was frontloaded, unlike right now where you 2 shot someone.

Actually people are flaming the guy telling the OP is wrong because mages should be sheeping and dotting.

While everyone is bickering about how to play a mage in PvP etc I will say this.
I don’t play mage and never have, even I can see they suck at the moment (no matter the skill level of the player). Even without the Damage reduction aura.
The simple fact is mages in vanilla yes had great utility and if played well could dominate (especially melee classes).
Now is SoD the melee classes have been given multiple gap closers and almost every class had good utility and some for of defensive rune.
Mages in SoD at the moment are incredibly squishy mostly due to magic type shields not scaling remotely close to the new SoD damage every class has.
This along with the fact that yes you indeed do need to hard cast spells to do good damage (even in PvP). The damage is still nowhere near the damage other classes do with instant spells and attacks.
Coupled with the fact vanilla mage utility isn’t as strong anymore.
Mages now are like phase 2 affliction locks. Seemingly forgotten about by blizzard and suffering hard in PvP.

They need to be fixed. And that’s coming from an outsider.
