I’ve been reading a lot of articles about the PVP update and how bad it is. With all classes being impacted to some degree, some far more than others with the weekend PVP blanket damage reduction.
I haven’t read many specific posts regarding mages, so would like to add feedback from my experience.
Firstly, I can’t quite understand the thought process behind applying such a substantial damage dampening without applying some forethought into resource management… As a fire mage PRE PvP Damage Dampening, we had solid burst but also a lot of mana issues which required effective resource management or dying simply because you’ve run out of mana.
The current state of play, we simply cannot provide any meaningful form of damage and if we survive long enough, we have run out of mana before half-healthing any class, if the class can heal or mana drain? forget about it.
Two notable moments in PVP yesterday; for context, I’m a near BiS Fire Mage.
My fire blast 1GCD, 280 mana hit a level 45 druid for 183 damage (with most PVP characters having 3/4/5/6k HP this will provide some insight into how ineffective mage DPS is currently).
I let a fire mage hard cast Frost fire bolt onto me during WSG hitting me for 387. (for those uninformed, FFB is a 3 second cast and would rarely get it off in any 1v1 or group fight)
You have been playing this like it’s PvE. Hard casting anything other than a slow is a giant fat L as mage for the most part. You slowly eat away while kiting for 1v1. In BG group settings you sheep and drop dots everywhere. The problem here isn’t the damage reduction…it’s that you don’t know how to actually PvP.
Another Tip for PvP: you are going to need rank 1 spells on your bars…especially frostbolt.
Brother, I think you misunderstood the entire point of my post and have made a laughable attempt to make a jab at my PvP capability whilst just highlighting your own lack of understanding.
There are so many things inaccurate or just blatantly wrong with your comment I can see why you deleted your initial post.
I ‘let’ a Fire Mage, implying I didn’t cast it.
You can’t insinuate the 1v1 PVP mage gameplay is kiting casters or any ranged dps (lol). and lets say for a second that was the ideal approach, are you saying kiting for 2 minutes is interactive or an engaging way to play? this is PVP, not kiting some PVE mini boss in a battle of attrition.
Skill issue or not, the mana to damage ratio isn’t it, you have never played a mage, at least not is SOD, and it shows.
That’s how PvP works in vanilla unless you were pom pyro. You don’t hit insanely hard and are there for your INSANE crowd control abilities. nova and sheep alone destroy in PvP. People need to accept that PvP isn’t always about damage.
Point me to where i said mage dots IN VANILLA. As for sheep…if you didn’t sheep as a mage in vanilla pvp, and basically all of wow…you were a VERY bad mage.
mage was my main. Go ahead and show me where i said dots in vanilla. You can’t…because i didn’t say it. You’re mixing two different posts together to try and make it seem like i said something i didn’t.
A guy responded to your post about mages dropping dots in group fights and kiting in 1v1s and said that’s not how mages work/you’re misunderstanding his initial post.
You responded by saying that’s how mages worked in Vanilla.
Did you really need this play by play? Or are you really that stupid where you think just because you never typed it out verbatim, it was never implied? Are you confusing these forums with reddit?
Some kind of active ability based mana regen for mage other than evo and gems would be really nice. The mana per damage is messed up. Maybe something with a trade off.
Yeah you are mixing two different posts as some weird attempt at a “gotcha” moment. That’s not how conversations work friend. mald harder…the PvP changes are good =)
I don’t think i did…it seemed like he was complaining that a 3 sec cast only did 300 damage. But you just don’t hard cast that in 95% of PvP scenarios.
Mage isn’t about big fat numbers in PvP…except PoM pyro casts. They are for massive crowd control and kiting abilities. Killing things with a mage takes time.
