SoD phase 3 Paladin Helm runes

Retribution Paladin has no useful helmet rune in Phase 3.

Improved Sanctuary & Light’s Grace are for prot & holy.

Art of War procs often enough already making Fanaticism useless might get off 1 or 2 more Exorcisms per boss fight.

Before I say why Wrath is useless for Ret I’d like to share an ability Paladins get in TBC some of you may have heard of.

Avenging Wrath: Increases all damage caused by 30% for 20 sec. Causes Forebearance, preventing the use of Divine Shield, Divine Protection, Blessing of Protection again for 1 min.

Wings, I can’t speak for all paladin’s but I personally love this ability. The dopamine hit I get from grabbing a Berserking buff and popping wings in a BG is probably my favorite part about playing paladin. When I saw the icon they chose for the Wrath rune I was elated Pally was getting wings in SoD. Then, a few minutes later, I read this…

Wrath: Your Consecration damage can now be critical strikes, and damage from your Exorcism, Holy Shock, Holy Wrath, and Consecration spells gains additional critical strike chance equal to your melee critical strike chance.

I felt like I had been kicked in the balls. Not only was I not getting wings in the next phase, they tore off any hopes of getting them at all. This was during the launch of phase 2 and since then I’ve been telling myself it’s gotta be wrong just something they were testing but after the preview of phase 3 all hope is lost. Same icon basically the same name 0% chance of wings.

Now I tell you why Wrath is a useless rune in phase 3… Ret doesn’t grab consecration or holy shock. I’d be surprised to see exorcism provide even a 10 dps increase with the increased crit chance. Holy wrath has a cast time and imo Improved Hammer of Wrath is better. The worst part of the ability is that this awful rune is essentially replacing Avenging Wrath, one of a Paladin’s most iconic abilities.

There it is, no useful helmet rune for Rets in phase 3 and even worse no wings in SoD…

They will get Consecrate at 50

They’ve revealed 2 out of 6 of each class’s runes.

Wait for the datamining before you decide the sky is falling down.

Still no new heals for Holy Paladin…

:unamused:

Meanwhile, Shaman get riptide. Smh.

Why not? With SoL granting spell power and Imp. Seal of Righteousness afecting SoM, why would you not pick up Consecration?

They datamined all 6 already

For phase 3 the precision talent in the prot tree gives 3% hit not leaving enough points for consecration. For phase 4 with lvl 60 consecration if all 8 procs crit it’s 30-50 more dps depending on SoL sp gain

RET Paladin runes have been uninteresting for the entire SOD, and basically Blizz wants to build in SOD a neutered version of RET in wotlk while Shamans have been stronger and more capable than ever.

Sometimes I wonder if Shaman is the only class Blizz devs plays as it seems they get all the good and innovative runes while RET get nothing innovative or strong.

Holy paladin needs attention if anything. No mobility healing. And by far the least amount of runes, all Holy shock runes being directed towards damage, none for healing. And THEY HAVE STILL YET to fix Sacred Shield and Beacon of Light to show on raid frames!!!

let’s not pass judgement yet pun intended
and see what the other helmet runes will be… unless ive missed somthing and all the helmet runes have been leaked and confirmed.

If engraver is at all accurate on what was data mined previously, Holy paladins mobility healing is still trash. We shall see what they add but I pray they are aware of this is, give us some mobility healing !!! add a rune for holy shock for healing(since it is in the holy tree lmao) not only damage its weird!!!
Make critical holy shocks, have Flash of light instant cast, like in WOTLK something more then 1 heal you can use when moving every 30 seconds.

you would have to sacrifice repentance tho, but i suppose in pve thats a good trade.

you got any kind of source on that?

Most likely Ret will grab consecration at 50, but it comes at the cost of dropping repentance (11/0/30).

With the ACP/SoM meta, however, consecration will definitely be our lowest priority ability on single target (which so far, has been most fights in BFD/Gnomer). And using consecration may amount to a dps loss if you happen to get an exorcism reset in that time.

I get that not all paladin gameplay revolves around ret, but dang, it’s super disappointing to see ret get no new spells or abilities from runes. It’s not a secret that rune abilities are significantly better than baseline abilities. And all three paladin specs just get crumby passive modifiers instead of shiny new abilities like (mostly) everyone else. There’s no button in any paladin spec that actually feels good to press, whether you’re tanking, healing, or dpsing

thank you!

my brother this is from phase 2 PTR you’re kidding right? half of these don’t even have helm runes who knows what has changed from the feedback from phase 2

Wrath seems like the obvious choice for the head rune for Ret as the others don’t actually do anything to help the spec.

That being said, Currently Ret relies entirely on fast 2h weapon swing speed and getting out as many melee hits as possible to help proc Art of War.

If we have to STOP melee’ing to cast a 2 second cast ability like Holy Wrath, you’re losing out on quite a bit of DPS casting the ability rather than just ignoring it entirely.

There’s just so many useless runes for paladin. There’s a token rune for each slot that regardless of what spec you’re playing you’re going to take over the others simply because the options are so bad.

Not to mention many of the runes could just be combined into one rune and it would solve so many problems with ret paladin but because we have Divine Shield and Lay on Hands any time Blizz buffs the class, half the Classic community lose their minds and say the class should be nerfed into the dirt… hence what we’re seeing now.

Great so no bracer runes for healing… so holy paladins are 3/7 for viable runes excluding sheeth of light.
