SoD is a solid W

Dear Bliz Classic Devs,

SoD isn’t perfect but it has been a lot of fun so far. I wanted to give you guys some feedback so here goes.

  1. The intermittent level cap is a HUGE win. In classic AND retail, I always feel pressured to level as fast as possible with maximum efficiency for fear that I will get left behind in the Pre-Bis gear rush which will mean problems getting into a solid, dedicated raid group. The intermittent level cap solves that issue and gives me time to explore, experiment and MOST IMPORTANTLY take time to actually help others, even total strangers. It also gives other people the time to help me. As a result I have actually made several brand new gaming buddies which is something that hasn’t happened in-game since I can’t even remember when. HUGE win, guys, and I love it.

  2. Classes, currently, seem to mostly maintain their sense of identity. Granted, I’m still not really on-board with the concept of healing mages or tanking rogues. I’m also on the fence about druid windfury, pally tremor totem and hunter with kings buff. But overall, classes do not feel homogenized… yet. I am concerned that as more runes are added, that might start to change. I hope that it doesn’t.

  3. The new content is a very welcomed change and has not felt terribly ‘grindy’. I like having to hunt down runes to unlock new capabilities. I would love to see rune content be variable so that getting runes doesn’t become a ‘just look it up on wowhead’ experience but I realize that is a bit far fetched.

  4. People are motivated to spend a large amount of time out in the open world. Again, this is a huge win. I hope it stays this way. There’s nothing more boring than spending 90%+ of my time camped out in a major city waiting for instanced content queues.

  5. World PVP has been active. I hope you guys can continue to keep players motivated to participate without need for gear rewards. I would love to see open-world nodes that could be claimed by guilds that could provide, say, raid buffs after a certain period of time ‘holding’ the node. Another idea I have is to add bounties to world pvp players or gankers to give incentive to world pvpers who want to ‘make a name for themselves’ as either gankers, world pvp chads or bounty-hunters. Really just anything besides simply having gear upgrades as incentives for world pvp.

Cheers!

It’s definitely a W, I think that’s why many of us are passionate about further improvements. If it sucked we would just move on.

My biggest takeaway from the varied caps is that I am doing pretty much all the quests (aside from 26+ quests) and enjoying some of the local zone lore/story. Without the cap, I would never had done these quests.

But the gold incentive is nice and you really traverse around areas you may not have ever even seen before.

I strongly agree. SoD is a very solid win and the most fun I’ve had since the relaunch of classic in 2019. The level cap has a very beneficial impact on the entire experience. It creates several good outcomes.

The only gripe I have is on not having a dual spec feature. It would be great if this were unlocked via a quest chain or other mechanic similar to rune discovery. I would play the game MORE if I could swap from my pve spec to pvp spec, but right now I am waiting because the cost becomes too prohibitive.
