SoD future story

With us getting Scarlet Crusade raid I think there is a ton of other raids they could to extend classic.

What areas would you like to see turned into raids?

I would love to Scarlet Crusade to lead us to TImbermaw hold with like undead or demon corruption that then leads us to mount hyjal current day. Could even open the door for a reworked TBC. With how SoD has gone I am not even against. They have done a great job

Karazhan is the obvious one.

Quel’serrar chain and Eranikus
Hyjal
Karazhan Tower and the original Warlock legendary to open the Dark Portal
Legendary chains prepping for Northrend with Outland content
Content scaled down to 60

So many possibilities they can explore and expand into. Its a playground to do all the fun stuff

While I’d love to encourage this, the fact is if the classic devs do too much new content in sod, they are making the launch of classic plus less impressive.

Putting it bluntly, I think expecting more new content beyond phase 8 is copium.

If I was a dev, my goal would be making phase 8 a demonstration that the classic dev team can nail truly new content beyond Kara crypts. I’d also want make it so that content is repeatable or encourages a good amount of engagement for an extended amount of time so that the sod-focused audience for classic plus is occupied and having fun until a true classic plus launches.

Well they said there will be more content after P8

Which is great because it allows them time to cook and prep for C+

So def not copium.

They also said Scarlet Enclave is the last full raid tier.

Where was that said because the bit agrrend wrote 100% did not say that.

We could say “Phase 8 is the final phase”

Straight from the man himself.

Cherry picked like hell.

  1. Giving too much info too early can be harmful because of the TLDR nature of communications and info sharing these days and the reality is that the question of “when does SoD end” is a question with a lot of nuance. We could say “Phase 8 is the final phase” and all of those hundreds of people you mention who are saying “well i’d start now but it’s about to end” would just hear “its over” and then they’d never think about it again. The reality is, we think there are many many many months of content in SoD left and trying to put a pin on a definite end date really just harms the experience of people that could still have months if not years of fun with the content that already exists and is coming. SoD will end in the sense that we will stop actively developing new large amounts of new content, but it won’t be a hard “it ends today” date and we have no intention of closing SoD servers. I can’t say never because I don’t know the future, but I can say that much like era, we have no plans at all to close them, and I do expect that some amount of the population will continue on when active development slows, just as we see in Era today. I think that once people see what’s in the next phase, this will be even more likely.

To be completely literal, he didn’t necessarily say “phase 8 was the end”. He was giving an example of a communication he could make.

I think the important part was this:

“people that could still have months if not years of fun with the content that already exists and is coming. SoD will end in the sense that we will stop actively developing new large amounts of new content, but it won’t be a hard “it ends today” date”

To me, this says phase 8 has a lot of long form/repeatable content. He then shifted focus towards classic plus which implies that’s where active development is. Put together, this means yes there will be content that will last a while in phase 8 but the devs have shifted their active development focus onto classic plus. That means no new large amounts of new content for sod unfortunately. But it’s not confirmed or denied, it’s mostly implied.

My expectation is that we will get a phase 8 and a phase 8.5 that includes new content and balancing but not a full new raid tier.

That’s my expectation as well, plus or minus the 8.5

I did see an Azshara mob was remade as an elite (On the southeastern coast, one of those Makrinni Razorclaws) in P7’s build, but tbh I have no idea what it could be for. Fixing an elite spawn if it was in Azuragos’ raid would be a weird fix in P7 (And that’s assuming that instance even had elite razorclaws on the coast), in the actual map they aren’t elite so I doubt they were fixing some spawn that was under the map (Nor do I think that is their process for fixing something like that, don’t think moving a bugged one requires making a new one in the backend).

Which leaves me to believe either

  • I will never figure our why this was added (Most likely)
  • It’s early signs of a Timbermaw raid being added in the zone (Idk why a coastal mob would be part of that, the place people assume the entrance would be isn’t on the coast)
  • It’s used as elite trash in the Scarlet Raid, as that has a coast

Almost certainly nothing, will just be cool seeing in hindsight if this pops up for anything next phase

Going to add something random I would love to see:

Gilneas. I really feel like it was terribly used after the Worgen intro, idk how it is in retail now but assuming it’s still largely nothing. Scythe of Elune is related to the area which could give us a legendary (Idk if that would fit canonically as I don’t know where it should be lore-wise right now. I think someone had evidence that one of the three weapons in Kara Crypts is Scythe of Elune? Unsure if true)

Also a bunch of Gilneas textures were added to the build in P7, but I’m assuming they were used in the kara dungeon, as thats what almost all the new textures this phase have been for

Not direct evidence, it just seems likely given that there are three weapons, scythe/sword/staff, and in Legion Ariden has Druid scythe lock staff and DK sword in his possession, although the models obviously don’t line up 1:1.

Well one thing mentioned earlier way before was the following.
-New Legendaries
-Eranikus story was going to happen.

Phase 8.5 adding an epilogue to each class story would be amazing. I want to have a proper goodbye to many of these new characters before SoD ends.

Id be okay with that.

Would be good to see things add in over time anyways before C+ or however they decide to do it.

Given how they worded it the pathway forward isnt solidified and anything can happen.

Scarlet Enclave → Upper Karazhan/Grim Batol → Secrets of Gilneas → Caverns of Time → Uldum → Arthas Awakens Scourge invasion in Hyjal.

In the tabletop the Argent Dawn are also in Hyjal so that would be interesting.
