Currently in SoD the pvp honor system isn’t 100% transparent. While ranking is significantly easier than in original classic, there is some ambiguity in how to rank up.
The honor gains for a given week appear to be tabulated in such a way that one of 2 out comes occurs: you gain enough honor to gain rank, or you don’t have enough and it is no different than if you didn’t pvp at all that week.
Could a list or formula or even just a simple addon be given to correctly figure out ranks?
to give an example R0 → R3 is largely held to be 11.5k honor gained in 1 week.
R0 to r2 is 500 honor?
Following that it is 4.5k honor to go to R3 from r2.
if you fall short of those metrics you might as well have saved time and done nothing.
At the current stage of the game missing ranking to R3 is by and large merely annoying. But in later phases people may lose their tempers over being short by 1k or needlessly pvping past a point where the gains are in fact nothing.
There is an addon called Ranker that I hear a lot of people use. They say it is accurate. Increasing ranks shouldn’t be that complicated though. There’s no more competition or brackets. You merely need the appropriate Honor to rank up.

It’s not quite that simple, but at these early ranks, that’s generally how it works out, yes.
The tl;dr is that ranking is nowhere near as granular as it used to be. There are certain honor “checkpoints” each week that will determine how much ranking points you get, and at later levels this may not equate to a whole rank either.
The problem with these checkpoints however, is that there’s no gradient between them. You either hit the checkpoint and get rank for it, or you miss the checkpoint and get rank for the previous checkpoint, regardless of if you were even just a few honor points short.
The ranker addon makes it very clear and easy to understand.
