SoD can be the next big thing, Blizz just needs to follow through!

  • Power Scaling: The most glaring challenge is these new TBC/Wrath + abilities would cause content to be significantly easier. Easy solution is to increase difficulty by scaling enemy stats AND their encounters/abilities.

  • Itemization: I’m assuming they’re already in the works to change tier itemization to reflect a more balanced class meta. SPELL POWER would need to replace +dmg / +healing as well, although you can keep specific items that only give either +dmg / +healing for those coveted raid role items.

  • New Loot: There needs to be a lot more items introduced that cater to the new builds that don’t exist in Vanilla (Shaman tanking gear, Warlock tanking gear, etc) because it would be a cop-out to just enable a single Rune to make these roles viable. (This kind of goes along with re-itemized tier gear)

There’s a lot more nuanced things that should be taken a look at, but I’m extremely hopeful that the Classic team are taking all of this into consideration as we progress through level brackets and onto level 60 end game content. I’m SUPER FREAKING stoked, and this is better than I ever could have expected. I believe it’s a good thing to go a little wild now so that we can see what works and what’s a bit too much for the “Vanilla” spirit.

I don’t think WoW consumers can say anything about Blizzard not listening anymore.

The only thing I would caution against is homogenizing class roles. An entire zone is also going to be PvP oriented, class balance issues will be important.

Other than those concerns, I’m happy with what was announced about SoD. Even more excited about the quick release time, though, I was suspect that they had something up their sleeve while playing the HC test realm.
