Trying to figure out if there is a point to playing SoD over retail.
Is there any overlap between these two? Do tmogs/pets/mounts translate to Retail or is it a completely isolated experience?

None of the Classic content (currently, anyways) transfers into Retail, or vice versa.
Almost completely isolated experience, minus a few specific shop items and bundles that provide items for both.
Oh, and you can use Retail gold to buy tokens, convert those into Battle.net Balance, and then use that to buy tokens in Cata Classic. Only version of Classic that currently has tokens, but you can’t pull gold out of Cata to bring to Retail.

Thanks for the clarification. Darn. Really wish they’d let Tmogs transfer at least. I would be much more tempted to try classic if I was at least working on fleshing out those old sets. Would be a bit more engaging then running around old dungeons on a lvl 80 one shoting everything.

That would be a good idea as long as it doesn’t change anything about the classic game.
