I so desperately wish I could bring myself to care. I just can’t, though.
THA JAILUR is just so… immensely shallow a character, his motivations stagnant and flat, and everything even remotely interesting has been twisted around to suit this one purpose of "I must be Evil™ because Reasons™.
Like I don’t wanna read too much into it but given why the triage at the company is happening now AND that they made the new Arbiter female:
male bad female good
like really first ones/creators/whatever?
This is just sad.
Also will Sylvie’s redemption mean Anduin lives/returns? Like I could accept that trade.
Probably reading a bit too much into it. I spoke about it in another thread but THA JAILUR is just everything that is bad and wrong about the Shadowlands. I just don’t find him compelling or interesting in the slightest, and Steve Danuser simply doesn’t have someone who cares enough to tell him anything other than ‘yeah that works’ on the first draft… not that he’s all that great of a writer to begin with.
Yes. Because this is another part of the problem. Blizzard’s writers have historically been really hesitant and scared to do anything with the status quo, and in recent expansions it’s never been more true. Sylvanas not dying or experiencing consequences means she can persist as a character. Tyrande not pursuing her vengeance after initiating a “hunt and/or die trying” clause means she can persist as a character. Baine still not experiencing anything remotely worth making him a character to remember means he can persist as the character he is.
Anduin’s going to come back okay from this and continue to persist as the character he is. Nothing is going to change at all.
Oh definitely.
It is just the simplistic, superficial kind of gesture that has sadly become commonplace that, even though a stretch, it seems possible or probable.
Sad is the overriding emotion I get from most of the storytelling and missed opportunities now.
