I believe Blizzard has woken up and realized how terrible these restrictions were. I’d check because on the anniversary realms they just removed the restrictions two hours ago.
I can also now trade and use the auction house, so this seems to be true.

My account itself isn’t new.
I switched regions from EU to US and according to support the same restrictions apply.
And I was indeed restricted before, I could not trade or use the auction house.
But now I can, since yesterday.
And on a side note: I’m not playing SoD but hardcore on the new anniversary servers.
But support referred me to this thread though.

I have a similar situation and all I got from CS was some pre-generated fluff. My account dates back to Burning Crusade with sporadic activity. I had a sub on another server I was using to play with some friends in EU until like a week ago when I switched to US.
Blanket policies like this will always catch innocents with those targeted and its poor implementation.
I share your pain.

Yes. My husband and son both had their accounts restricted because we switched from US to EU servers. All of our accounts date back to 2005 and have had recent subscription time. The problem has been corrected for both my husband’s and son’s account. Of course, I was pretty vocal about it. I posted on EU and US forums and we filed in game tickets with both Customer Service and the Developers. Problem was corrected this morning.
Edit: I should add a thanks to the Developers for taking action on this. Much appreciated. I was very doubtful anything would be done so you did surprise me.

They wont. Hence all the posts about people on the anniversary realms crying about how their 6 year or more deactivated account is affected like they play the game enough to truely care.
New Account here, I can now trade and use the AH, It seems Blizzard heard us 1 year later lol
