Am I crazy? Does it feel like social wow is dead and it’s all about progression?
Thinking back when classic wow was rebooted it was very social and I loved it but now it’s dead.
Please call me out if I’m wrong and invite me to social guild nothing I want more then to make some friend in azeroth!

I mean I can’t say yes or no as I have only come back full time a couple months ago, but I can’t seem to get in a guild at all so there’s that
Nope? Just as social as it has ever been. There’s just more stuff that can be done solo.

I’ve never talked to so many people in previous expansions, mostly due to advertising crafts from professions or contacting someone advertising their own crafts

What’s your take on being social. Thinking about it social could mean multiple things for different people.
Imo social aspect in most MMOs are gone
As more solo friendly aspects of game play has evolved

My guild is super casual and social. We aren’t pushing anything. But not everyone is us.
Chatting with people? Doing stuff with people? I don’t know. It’s easier than ever to get in touch with people and unlike back in the day you’re no longer limited to a relatively small amount of people on whatever server/faction.

I think the sociality is still there but it’s moved to places like Discord. I use the in-game chat very little. My guild Discord though is always incredibly active.

Yeah, easier to have groups and servers or phone access on something like Discord. Typing stuff in-game with awkward channels or guilds is just super dated.

The majority of it has gone the way of Guilds and Discord now with the odd streamer grp thrown in.
I feel the same. I had three people over new years actually talk to me about different silly things and this is what I miss about MMOs.

my guild constantly chats and I just witnessed a very lively political discussion in trade chat. Very active IMO
Interesting it seems everything has moved to third party chats. Maybe blizzard needs to look at integrating thrid party chats and the internal systems of wow.
We would lose a Raid tier lol

I feel like average player is less social these days, because there are so many social media sites, and people are connected everywhere, WoW has become a quiet time rather a group socializing event for many.
Unless you’re extroverted and jump to the guild discord right away and gel with guild people well. Those people probably have just as much social interaction if not more these days.
I personally miss those old days of more anonymous guild chat days where it wasn’t that immediately as close as discord voice, where it was possible to “ease” into the group on equal terms with everyone in text guild chat, instead of being at disadvantage of not being in voice chat right away.

I’ve joined a lot of in-game communities, but most of their conversations are through Discord now. People say that the in-game community chat can be buggy and Disc is just easier to organize groups with. Other than people moving to Disc, I’ve still found the game fairly social. Sometimes you just have to start the chatter.
Sharding hurts much of the social aspect for me in regards to open world, at least when it comes to the few things that actually give you a direct incentive to be social. Most things in that environment don’t even need it.
As far as group finder listings for instanced content, the game is seemingly anti-social by accident. There’s more of an incentive to group with the same people as opposed to running with different strangers. In pugs themselves, 75% of that content doesn’t require you to be social, and when you get to a level where it does the in-game communications are less than adequate.
Oddball question from an old man….
Does social gaming exist anymore? My experience had been decidedly negative these last few years.
